PNC: ARCHBISHOP HIT WITH ALLEGATIONS OF SEXUAL MOLESTATION

by Janela Carrera

Allegations of sexual molestation against Archbishop Apuron that allegedly occurred over 30 years ago have surfaced.

Guam - A new scandal may be hitting the Catholic Church as allegations of sexual molestation have surfaced against the Archbishop himself, Anthony Apuron. PNC obtained a letter sent to the Archbishop last month and we also spoke with the person who wrote it.

22 comments:

  1. "The archbishop removed Fr. John Wadeson from his functions as a priest in the Guam Catholic community" (PDN, June 23, 2014) when allegations of his sexual misconduct were recently publicized in the local media.

Tim Rohr, in his Jungle Watch blog, said that these allegations, though very serious, are just that -- allegations.

Yet, the archbishop removed Fr. John Wadeson because:
"The Archdiocese of Agana has a policy regarding sexual misconduct and sexual harassment and takes these matters seriously." (The Archdiocese of Agana 562-0000)

So, Apuron, don't waste time. Have an independent entity investigate this "allegation" and clear your name. In the meantime, STEP DOWN, ALREADY!!

  5. Is Johnny Toves sure on the year of this matter? The AA was in agat 1976-1977. I would know because I am from down there. Just wondering because he indicated the year to be 1980 at that time we had Fr. Jack.

    1. The alleged molestation occurred while John and his cousin were at the minor seminary in Tai, not in Agat. There are others stories though about what happened in Agat.

    2. check other NEO leaders too.

  6. This is alleged to have happened when those boys were at the minor seminary, right? When was Arch the rector of the Cathedral?

    1. I got married June of 1980. Then Fr. Tony was at Cathedral already. He concelebrated at our wedding.

  7. Several allegations . John speaks only of one at the minor seminary of Tai. Important now to have an external investigation by the Vatican so we can clean up the Archdiocese. To allow this to continue means further division in the church over and above the NCW. Believe tony should take an extended sabbatical, period of prayer, in a monastery, to reflect on his life . Spend time in prayer .

    1. Seclusion and penance are in order...jail cell or monastic cell?

    2. For peace and unity prudence would ask the archbishop to take a six month period of sabbatical for personal prayer and renewal. A new leader is required , regardless of sex abuse or not. Archbishop is unable to lead, the archdiocese divided, and worsens daily. We need a new leadership to save our island church. still believe, it is right Apuron retires early and allow the archdiocese a new leader to restore the church.

  8. The Archbishop forgot one essential adage. "When you live in a glass house, you don't throw stones".
But over the years, bullying, and getting away with almost anything, I guess the arrogance became such, that he felt untouchable.
This is the beginning of a long and (unfortunately) ugly process.
You will also note that Adrian has become extremely quiet, because his closet is also full of ugly skeletons, and he now knows John is not kidding.
What people must realize is that there are more victims around, and if so far, they have refused for personal reasons or because of family pressures to testify, this might finally open up the proverbial can of worms.
We must stiffen our resolve because you know, that anti Catholic groups will jump on this opportunity to vilify our whole Church. This is one of the main reason the Archbishop was able to get away with his misdeeds for so long, because many of us felt reluctant to act, for that reason alone.
The Archbishop spiraling of evil deeds has forced this to the front.
His lack of humility, his selling of our Church to a Sect, (who most likely knew, but used this knowledge to corral brother Tony, rather than protect the flock) his baseless attack on good priests has brought us to the brink.
Pius must now beware as well, because our friends in Malta are starting to talk, and what is being revealed is not pretty at all.
The NCW has let loose a bunch of wolves in our midst. It is time we let the guard dogs loose.
    More to come.

    1. News from Malta? Hmmm. May I say, that the response from the Carmelite Order of Friars was not taken sweriously. It was naive and just handled as something to clear off of the Provincials desk. God forgive them.

    2. True. But you haven't seen my response to the regional with CC: nuncio, carmélite Gl and several pacific region bishops.
I have close political friends in the conservative party in Malta who have been more than willing to fill some of the voids in Pius well edited biography.
Just waiting for confirmation from some other sources to share in the Jungle.
BTW I noted that many of the old NCW sites are either no longer available or under construction.
Thanks God we printed most of them months ago.
It would appear that somebody is putting in a lot of time and money covering up their tracks.

  9. We need to know exactly what took place at the Tai seminary. Abuses often continue through out an abusers life until they come fact to face with the damage they caused others. Very often at this point abusers turn to religion, or religious cults, where by they can come to terms with their past and discover inner healing of memories. But it is the victims who suffer the most, often turning to self medication, depression, drugs, and live in failed marriages because of the abuse. It is important for John Toves to reach out to his cousin and offer all the spiritual and psychological support that he can. Focus now is healing for the individual so he can regain the much needed peace of mind. May we all pray for Victims of sexual abuse in Guam and ask the Lord to restore the peace so violently removed from them.

  10. This is a whopper! At the very least. AAA has to step down.

  11. Senator BJ Cruz now had the justification to push a bill through to waive the statute of limitation. If the Church gets sued, so be it. Its a cleansing she needs.

  12. We would rather pay money to the victims that are to be rightfully compensated by the little money they can get from the Archdiocese, instead of stupidly giving our money to the NEO leaches!!!

Shame on you, Apuron! Step the HELL down!

  13. jury is still out regarding Archbishop . It is a Guam problem and the people of Guam will remove him justly.

  14. Senator BJ Cruz. I am sure you are watching this painful episode in our Church, our community and our society play out. I assume you are wondering what can be done to bring peace and justice to the victims of abuse. Reintroducing your earlier measure (bill) that expired is a good start. I believe you need to construct a way in which the abused are protected from further pain by guaranteeing absolute anonymity while granting the accused their right to face their accuser. We have successful drug courts, we have successful juvenile courts, family courts, now they want a veterans court, why not a victim of abuse (all sorts) court. There has to be a way to establish safeguards for all parties while meting out proper justice and putting an end to this scourge of our church and society?
