PACIFIC DAILY NEWS. TUESDAY. MAY 31, 2016 - ANOTHER VICTIM

Mother of deceased man accuses Apuron of molesting son

Doris Concepcion, of Prescott, Ariz., says her son, Joseph A. Quinata, told her he was molested by Archbishop Anthony Apuron of Guam. Quinata died 11 years ago. Video was produced by David Wallace of The Arizona Republic.

http://www.guampdn.com/story/news/2016/05/30/mother-deceased-man-accuses-apuron-molesting-son/84888594/

AND FROM ADRIAN THE STUPID:

“In the past days, malicious and calumnious accusations against the Archbishop have surfaced, even from a deceased person,” Father Adrian L.F. Cristobal, Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Agana, said in a statement. “The Archbishop strongly denies this accusation as he had done so before.”

OH GEEZ!

Cristobal added that “Archbishop Anthony urges the faithful not to be afraid, to stand for the truth and he asks for continued prayers.”

SICKENING!

“(Apuron) would ask me if he can have Sonny, because Sonny would do this and that, and he needs help around the rectory,” Concepcion said. “And then he wants Sonny to spend the night with him so they can go and do something for the church, and he needed help. Sonny would retaliate, and say, ‘No, mama, I don’t wanna go,’ and I would punish him. No, you have to go, because Father Apuron needs help.”

SO SAD. SO SAD.

“I have no reason to not to believe my son,” she said. “He didn’t want to take it to his grave.”

"I DON'T THINK HE EVER WILL."

All I want is for him, if he has a conscience, to admit the truth and do what’s best for the people. That’s what I want him to do, but I don’t think he ever will. But that is my message for him.”

"AND APURON IS USING THE CHURCH"

“I’m not putting our church down,” Concepcion said, “No, we the people are the church. That’s what makes the church — us — and (Apuron is) using the church.”

STATEMENT BY SNAP

Mother of second alleged victim of archbishop speaks, Victims respond

Statement by Joelle Casteix of Newport Beach, CA, Western Regional Director of SNAP, Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAPNetwork.org) (jcasteix@gmail.com, 949-322-7434 cell)

Our hearts ache for Doris Concepcion, who has so bravely spoken out about the abuse her son endured.

Parents of sexual abuse victims carry an awful and painful burden. Ms. Concepcion only wanted the best for her son. She had no idea that she was possibly putting her child in the path of a predator. We hope that Ms. Concepcion finds the peace and healing she so deeply deserves. Her powerful words and story have made is safer for victims of abuse everywhere—no matter the predator—to come forward and find healing and justice.

Two brave people have now come forward to allege child sexual abuse at the hands of Archbishop Apuron. The time for "internal investigations," bullying parishioners, and maintaining the status quo is over.

It is time for the Vatican and Pope Francis to adhere to their promises of child safety. They must immediately step in and publicly remove Apuron from his office until a complete and independent investigation is complete.

In the meantime, Apuron should and must do the right thing and voluntarily step aside. No cleric, especially an archbishop, should remain in ministry when he has two credible allegations of abuse that have not been investigated.

We implore other victims to come forward to law enforcement and civil authorities. As Roy Quintanilla and Doris Concepcion have shown Guam's victims of abuse, help and support are available.

(SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is the world’s oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims. SNAP was founded in 1988 and has more than 20,000 members. Despite the word “priest” in our title, we have members who were molested by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, and Protestant ministers. Our website is SNAPnetwork.org)

NOTE FROM CNMI LAWYER

The decedent’s statement is admissible hearsay.

When molestation survivor Joseph A. Quinata made his statement to his mother Doris Concepcion about what happened to him at age 11, he expressly did so because he was about to undergo surgery for a perforated intestine, with only a 30% likelihood of survival, and did in fact pass away shortly thereafter.

Under the law, statements made under the belief of imminent death about the cause of death, such as “He shot me,” are an exception to the normal rule excluding hearsay testimony from court proceedings. Fed. R. Evid. 804(b)(2).

Statements in the face of imminent death about other matters are also admissible under the Residual Exception, where “the statement has equivalent circumstantial guarantees of trustworthiness.” Fed. R. Evid. 807(a)(1).

This is significant because it greatly increases the likelihood of admissibility of Joseph A. Quinata’s statement in any civil or criminal case where it may be relevant.

The hearsay statements of other survivors who are now unavailable (whether through death or an unwillingness to relive the psychological trauma) may very well also be admissible under the Residual Exception, based upon independent indicia of reliability.

But because Joseph A. Quinata’s statement was made under the belief of imminent death, it is quite literally a nail in the coffin of the clerical careers of Guam NCW Cult leaders Archbishop Apuron, Father Sammut, Father Cristobal, et al.

St. Thomas Aquinas posited at least four possible reasons for human suffering, as when a loved one passes away. (1) Free will. (2) Imperfect knowledge. (3) Good from evil. (4) Redemptive suffering -- in union with Christ.

The grief and sorrow experienced by his family upon the death of Joseph A. Quinata may indeed lead directly and proximately to a great spiritual good (# 3), the dissolution of the Guam NCW Cult Leadership.

They should step aside temporarily before they are removed permanently. Let us pray that their counsel gives sound legal advice.

May the faithful of the Archdiocese be strengthened to stand up and speak out for what is right, and to support those in our midst who have suffered and continue to suffer from this criminal conspiracy.

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle!

    3. I was wrong about age 11.

His death was 11 years ago. Since he was younger than the first Agat survivor to go public, he was likely younger when the abuse started.

Thank you, Doris Conception, for speaking out. May your words and the words of Roy Quintanilla give courage to others who are waiting to speak for themselves.

Tony's actions are just so horrific.
    The victims are painfully specific!
Now is the time for all victims to speak out,
For the Church to listen and not shut out.
And for Tony to leave the Pacific!

My prayers for all victims and their families!
Now is the time for healing, which we can see is now starting to happen. All victims should come out for true healing. Now is the time.

  11. Once again, strong statements of denials coming from the Chancery, The Archbishop, should step aside immediately and should do whatever he needs to do to address this situation. He is however, refusing to step down and continues to deflect and deny these allegations. The truth will come out in the end and we the flock will reflect back that all the denials were a mere attempt to salvage his "good name". We will see once and for all that Apruon deliberately lied to safe his skin. Remember that you are still duty-bound to be truthful since you are still the Shepherd of your abandoned flock. You have a greater responsibility to the Truth because of the position that you have. Once again do what is right and step down. Tell your handlers that you at least want to do one last honorable act. You must do the honorable thing and resign. Remember you are affection the Church and the Laity by stringing this scandal longer.

The decades of pain Doris has carried
Cannot be shouted down by Guam Chancery.
Mothers do not lie. I also believe Statement of CNMI lawyer. Those who are in possible danger of death tell their loved ones the truth.
For Doris to have lived with this pain and to remain balanced is a grace from God.
It reminds me of our Blessed Mother at the foot of the cross watching in pain the anguish of Our Lord. Every mother throughout the world reading this story needs to reflect on the testimony of Doris.

  14. One thing we all have to face is that Apuron and his co-conspirators can continue to LIE AND LIE AND LIE AND LIE. They've been doing it for years and it has been working. No need for them to change course now. They seem to give no thought to their eternal fate. Their earthly power is all that appears to matter.

This has worked for them because they are sure the people, the vast majority, will stay silent, or at least "anonymous." It's true. We have to face facts. The only reality they have to face is what shows upon this blog and an occasional news story that has only a life for a few days. Then it all goes away and we go back to the same parishes and hand over our money.

There is only one way to flush Apuron and his cronies out and that is to financially break the diocese. I have no hope that will happen. Most people are too vested in their parishes, their positions in those parishes, their status quo. Apuron knows this and is counting on it. He knows you like air con and will keep it running at all costs.

Meanwhile, all this suffering of people like Roy and Doris and who knows how many others will be for nothing since Apuron can simply call them liars, plan his next trip, and ordain more presbyters, which of course will one day push all of you out of your status quo's, but then it will be too late.

There is absolutely NO other way. You must turn off the finances, period. I know that real priests are willing to put up with whatever suffering this may bring, including saying Mass in a war torn battlefield if it comes to that.

How many "Sonny's" are out there? Rotting away on the inside because an evil man grabbed his genitals or worse when he was only 8? Never mind. Have a nice day and enjoy your next fiesta.

  15. I posted this a short time ago but it bears repeating:

    The Perfect Crime
    1. Victim is young and innocent
    2. Perpetrator is older and in a position of authority.
    3. Victim is so traumatised by the abuse he/she is unable to speak about it.
    4. Much time passes and the statute of limitations takes effect.
    6. Perpetrator is off the hook and gets away with the crime, free and clear.

    7. Repeat # 1 through 6.

Wake up Guam! Speak out! Silent No More!!!

    1. Well then let me help you out. There is something called a Statute of Limitations which prevents a victim fro pursuing legal action against an assailant after a certain period. Child molesters are excellent at using this system. They know the children they molest don't know anything about bringing charges against them and by the time they do the statute would be expired. Such is the case for the two victims. They have no way to pursue this in court. They need Apuron to sue them for defamation as he has threatened in order for this to go to court. Apuron won't.

May God’s blessings be with you and may the Holy Spirit continue to strengthen you with the fortitude you received to overcome what no doubt, was extremely painful and difficult for you as a mother to bare in public what your child kept to himself for so many years, but needed to reveal to you in order for him to be able to go in peace.

Please know that the Catholic faithful are with you in prayers and love, fully supporting and backing you -- for the courageous good you did not only for your son but for all the other victims that have yet to come forward. May the soul of Joseph A. Quinata rest in peace; and may the Holy Spirit guide other victims as well, bolstering their courage to come forward in order to begin their own healing.
