A CLEAR AND CONCISE ANALYSIS

Posted by Jose Martinez

"The archbishop named by the Vatican to temporarily oversee the administration of the Catholic Church in Guam said Sunday that his actions and decisions “may be far from perfect” but are geared toward promoting unity in the church, among other things.

Archbishop Savio Hon Tai Fai has been in Guam for more than five weeks since Pope Francis appointed him on June 6 to temporarily replace Archbishop Anthony S. Apuron, while sex abuse allegations involving Apuron are investigated.

To date, the Vatican hasn’t released any details about an investigation relating to Apuron, who’s been accused publicly of sexually abusing four altar boys in the 1970s when he was parish priest at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Agat.

Apuron remains archbishop and has not been charged with any crime."

  1. "...may not be perfect..." a genius for understatement.

  5. What is it going to take for AB Hon to realise and admit that his actions and decisions are not just "far from perfect", but a blatant FAILURE. Simple test -- just WHAT IS YOUR MISSION in being assigned Apostolic Administrator here? If YOU cannot honestly answer this, then it makes perfect sense why your actions and decisions are "far from perfect", i.e. because you do not know what you are trying to accomplish. As I had said before, YOU ARE GOING AROUND IN CIRCLES!

From our perspective, what you have done so far is reshuffle your "curia"; asked the pastors to submit their courtesy resignation so you can make further administrative changes; met with your clergy, but for what true purpose we do not know (we speculate so that you can keep them in line); hold prayer vigils to ask us to be patient and pray (Kumbaya style); schedule pastoral visits in the parishes (has anything concrete come out of these?); given us a weekly template schedule of your activities - I can' think of much more! (Can you?)

From our perspective, you were sent here by the Pope to take over the administration of our errant archbishop (Anthony Apuron), while he struggles with his personal issues of sexual abuse allegations, and TO BRING PEACE AND UNITY TO A DIVIDED CHURCH. You have told us that the latter is outside your hands, as the case has gone to Rome for resolution. Have you taken the time out to fill in your people with this case as to its status and future outcome. Surely, you must have some idea, some intel! Could you not share them with us?

In the meantime, have you taken the time out to communicate with us to assure us that our Church is there full force to help us? Or are you allowing us to wallow with our lack of updates, because it is "none of our business"?

Have you taken the time out to TRULY DETERMINE what it is that is causing this "great divide" within the Faithful of our Catholic Church - aside from the Apuron issue?

You have been here for six weeks now, and we have yet to hear you speak ONE WORD about the Neocatechumenal Way as the root of our Catholic Church divide - and what you intend to do about it WHY NOT? Is it because it is a "sacred cow" - something to be protected, instead of being rooted out? It IS the ROOT of the division within our Catholic Church - you know! Why are you so afraid to even bring this topic up? Is it because there is nothing you can do about it, coming as a mandate from your boss Cardinal Filoni to "protect at all cost"! (Reminds me of politicians who refuse to even mention the word "radical Islamic terrorism" for fear of offending Muslims.

Until you can come to grips with reality, AB Hon, you will continue to go around in circles with your "far from perfect" actions and decisions.

And that is why people are clamoring "Hon, Go Home" - just like the populace bravely confronted Gieuseppe Gennarini and company when they came to Guam a few months ago "Gennarini, Go Home". He did! Why don't you do the same?

Just tell the Pope - "I am not the man for the job! I quit!" Maybe with another shepherd who smells like a sheep, we might get something done! Do it on Thursday, July 21, 2016 - when Guam celebrates its annual Liberation Day! We'll even shoot up fireworks for you! (jrsa: 7/19/16)

  6. And so, Agana Heights Parish, just how did the "unity in the church" meeting go the other day? Any feedback on your parish questionnaires? Any hard questions answered? Or was it the same kind of meeting with Apuron last year?

  7. After six weeks of going through the motions, rearranging the furniture, skirting the real issues, trying to make nice through words and attending galas and fiestas...Hon, what part of urgent do you not understand?
David Lujan had you pegged early on as someHon on vacation. Please pack your bags and go home. No more playing nice on our part.

  8. Hon's call for unity is a bunch of bullshit propaganda to buy more time and hope that it all goes away. Keep up the pressure...as long as it takes!
