Neocatechumenal Way co-founder Carmen Hernandez dies at 85

http://www.ewtnnews.com/catholic-news/World.php?id=13953

Carmen Hernandez, co-founder of the Neocatechumenal Way, died today at home in Madrid, Spain. She was 85 years old.

Hernandez, along with Kiko Arguello and Fr. Mario Pezzi, made up the international team responsible for the ecclesial movement, which focuses on post-baptismal adult formation. It is estimated that the movement contains about 1 million members, in some 40,000 parish-based communities around the world.

Over the last year and a half, Hernandez had suffered deteriorating health, although she was never diagnosed with a specific disease.

She was last seen publically March 18 at an audience that Pope Francis granted missionary families of the Neocatechumenal Way.

The Holy Father also spoke to her by phone on July 1, during an audience with Kiko Argüello and Fr. Mario Pezzi.

Of course, we will pray for her soul, because of our concern about the grave damage she has done.

For his part, Kiko believes that she is already in heaven, as you can read in this letter.  No purgatory for her!

It gets better...Kiko says that she waited for his kiss before she died...it's all about him, after all.

Translation:
Beloved Brothers,

I give great news: today, at 4:45pm, our sister Carmen has departed for heaven. It is certain that our Lord Jesus has come to take her soul and take her with him. While we suffer for her loss, especially me, we are happy to know that our Lord Jesus has taken her with him.

Carmen, what an enormous help for the Way! She never flattered me, always thinking about the good of the Church. What a strong woman! I’ve never met anyone like her. In the announcements, with the youth, and the Pope, as now in Krakow, she would always tell them; “The woman is the most important of the Church, because she carries within her the factory of life. So on the first page of Genesis to the end of Revelations the devil is always persecuting the woman.” And she would end it saying. “I leave you Kiko as a gift.”

I hope to die soon and join her. Carmen has been for me a wonderful occurrence; the woman, her great (temper or genius –it means both), her charisma, her love for the Pope and especially her love for the Church.

Well brothers, my soul is aching, because she is no longer with us. But faith helps me and says that she is with Christ. Pray for her. You can celebrate Mass together in commemoration/memory of Carmen.

The Archbishop of Madrid has accepted that the funeral of Carmen be done, with the body present in the Cathedral, perhaps Cardinal Rouco can preside. The Itinerants of Europe are invited to the funeral, if you can come. We will tell you of the exact day.

Courage, that Christ is risen and has conquered death for us!

It has been touching for me that she waited until I arrived, I gave her a kiss and told her; “Courage” and after giving her a small kiss, she passed away.

Kiko Arguello

    1. Don't waste your time praying for her. She died with what she believed and taught, that praying for the dead is a waste of time.

    2. Anon@ 8:35. I will "waste my time." I will waste my time because my faith teaches me to pray for the dead, especially those who are in most need of prayers.

So, if you want to think that it's ok to adhere to someone else's assertion to not pray for the dead, especially one that is contrary to the teaching of our faith through the works of mercy, then you might as well become that which you think you are against.

He had no thought of being loyal, but hounded the poor and the needy and the broken-hearted to their death.

17 He had a taste for cursing; let it recoil on him! No taste for blessing; let it never come his way!

18 Cursing has been the uniform he wore; let it soak into him like water, like oil right into his bones.

    4. Well put, Jose M. May each one of us rise above the fray when it comes to the eternal salvation even of a single soul whether he or she might not necessarily have done or have not done what is good. May we leave judgment to God who alone reads the hearts of all. Pray if we must, but only to petition God for the salvation of a soul - His daughter or son for eternity.

  3. Maybe all the money she left behind will be used to start the process for her sainthood.

  8. Breaking News: Chalan Pago visitation today

Fr. Waldo announced the visit from the pulpit but did not mention a time. Maybe so he could pack it with Neo. I've been told it's at two o'clock.

    1. What does it say about Hon and the Archdiocese of Agana when he decides to make a "visitation" to a parish but will not publicize an important detail such as the time he will visit? Just so he can report to the Vatican that he made his parish visits (never mind the attendance report)?

    2. Kinda sounds like real dialog, huh?! Kinda sounds like the secrecy of all the surveys in the village parishes, huh?! Kinda sounds like the silence around the victims?! Kinda sounds like how our donations have been misspent on RMS in the past and how we are being "invited" to give even more?!

  9. Carmen's death will mutate this NCW movement into a more deformed object.

  10. No need to pray for her soul. Her own theology teaches that membership in the NCW is an automatic ticket to heaven.

  11. Praying for Ms Carmen Hernandez.
However, kiko's " kiss of Death" is
    Something to reflect upon.

  12. We need to pray for her eternal rest. We need to pray for the NCW members, including the founders and leaders, living and dead.
People don't generally choose to be in error - they usually think they are right.

Presumably Carmen now knows what a mess the NCW created and how deep the problems are - where in deed the NCW departs from the Catholic Church. Pray that she might become an heavenly advocate for the reform of the movement.

  13. It was mentioned some place that Jesus came to take her..., maybe Jesus wants to ensure that she walks inn
the right direction and not make a detour to heaven..., gotta remember that in the Apostle Creed "...was crucified and was buried, He descended into hell", so maybe that is why H came to take Carmen to show her the "WAY"...I am still praying for her soul.

  14. I'm amazed how humans can be so cruel, heartless, evil not only be in their minds but also to be in your heart. To all I say one thing: be sure, rest assured, this is something that few know, but something that I can tell you is: do good and want good, it's the right thing, and safe to do. Prayers for the warrior Carmen Hernandes, a woman I thank you, for everything you did for the church and for me.

    1. We can still pray for a person while still acknowledging that she hurt the Church through the introduction and perpetuation of heresy. She needs these prayers the most.

Evil and heartless? Drama and hyperbole make for a quick dismissal.

  20. bad enough that neocat beliefs do harm to souls on earth. but it's even worse when they don't see the need to pray for the dead. not surprising, though, since they don't seem to believe in purgatory.

may God have mercy on her soul and on the souls of all the faithful departed.

    1. The NCW aren't interested in their dead because they can't get anymore money or property out of them.

    2. This is very true; they also want to stand far away especially when the heirs find out that the property they were to inherit was givin away to these greedy NEO Cult Presbters or Catechists. The silver lining is the fact that these donated properties are never publicly announced to the group...

  22. With no malice intended, what would happen to the NCW when Kiko dies? Does the NCW have a "deep bench" that Kiko's way will continue after his passing?

    1. NEOs will say "IF Kiko dies" but the rest of the normal world says "WHEN kiko dies." One can logically guess that NCW will hatch a fresh batch of deranged leaders when Arguelles departs to his next destination near the judgment seat of God. Churchmen who bribed him for upward mobility in the hierarchy will renew their efforts at pleasing new dictators, and another batch of ambitious clerics will make a dash to impress their neo backers. More crooked theology will arise from the fissures of the forked tongues of half-baked presbyters. More venomous rhetoric from self-appointed "intelligentsia" like the diana, and more neo wannabes will come to its defense to comedic effect. That is the legacy of Kiko Arguello whose haphazard application of warped theology, morality and history will live on through gullible, impressionable, guilt-ridden, misdirected individuals. For a while at least, then will fizzle before it dies down to a shameful end.

We get a lot of so called "outsiders" like yourself, who post blanket comments like yours, which bring absolutely nothing to the fray. Instead of attempting (crudely) to judge thy neighbor, you should start educating yourself first. Which is something you apparently think you are above to even consider.

  28. It is not about being right or wrong.... The catechesis of the way go hand in hand with the catechesis of the catholic church.. have you ever read the catechesis of the catholic church?
You really need to get the whole stack of catechesis of the way and then lokc oyurself in a room like martin luther did then talk to me what is diffenrent that the way says from the catholic church
It goes back to the time of paul when he and peter evangelized and did little commnunites as we do.

If you say the way is wrong in every possible way... Then why hasnt any pope demanded to close the way or argue against it?
You realize that the vatican had to read all of Kiko's catecheisis in order to allow the neocatechumenal way to be formed?
The pope has not found anything to argue against the catechesis.

I dont know what the way has done to you but it may be that you have allowed pride to take over you when god was telling you that he loved you.

      2. Please tell us where to acquire "the whole stack of catechesis of the way." Ummm, that's the point. But never mind.

And yes, God loves me and told me to do what I am doing. Maybe "you have allowed pride to take over you" and you believe yourself authorized to condemn what God is telling me to do.

      LOL. Bye.
