  1. As I am not on Guam and not familiar with Rev. Fr. Joel de los Reyes - Parochial Administrator of San Vicente Ferrer Church in Barrigada - can I get more information on him?

I know that sometimes you can never go back but Barrigada needs to start mending and bringing our parishioners back. I really would love to start going back to mass in my village of Barrigada when I come home.

    1. He leads the Cursillo in Guam and also the Divine Mercy group. He is also an established composer, mostly songs about the Divine Mercy. The 3 o clock habit (prayer) on KOLG is said by him and the song that accompanies that prayer was composed by him. He used to the parochial vicar of Santa Barbara Parish.

  7. To the people of Umatac: Don't roll the Red Carpet out for Adrian! He destroyed the "Catholic Family" in Barrigada. Keep a close eye on him and whip him if he tries to do the same in your village.

  8. Now there are some very smart assignments in that list. A sign of hope. I wonder, though, if Fr. Waldo will give his "Masturbating Monkeys" spiel to the kids at DYA?

  11. Please spare Umatac or any other village from Adrian. Best assignment for Adrian would be the soup kitchen with dakon "I love the archbishop" Tenorio. Maybe he can serve up some turtle soup.

  12. This assignment list is not bad a step in right direction but much more needs to be done.
Adrian assigned to Umatac will banish him to a remote area where he can do least damage. sad for Umatac people but i guess he needs to go some place.
Not convinced Reyes is right choice for Barrigada.
Edivaldo assigned to a prison is a good move. He will fit in well with them. Hope he dont mess with prisoners!

  14. There once was this priest named Adrian
While growing up on Guam he had no friends
He joined in the priesthood and thought that he could
Start bullying them all on the weekends.
But that didn't change as he thought
Because Adrian's soul had been bought
Sold to The Way to have friends for a day

Our canons have provisions for a “parochial administrator” to supply continued pastoral care in unforeseen or temporary circumstances when a pastor leaves office or is part of a planned transfer or rotation of clergy assignments. When a pastor’s office becomes vacant or when the pastor cannot exercise his function (for example due to illness) then the bishop has the duty to designate another priest to provide pastoral care to a parish until the vacancy is filled (or until the pastor returns to duty). The appointment may be indefinite but never permanent. The temporary condition ends when the pastor returns or a new one is appointed to fill the vacancy. (You can relate this also on the Archbishop level with Fr. Hon being the Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Agana). I can only speculate on the parochial administrator appointments from the list above. I think it is an effort by Fr. Hon and the Presbyteral Council to walk the balance between addressing the needs of all parishes to have a pastor, weighing those needs against their existing team of clergy, and weighing the duties and qualifications of each clergy with the unique needs of each parish. There are other several other considerations for clergy assignments, so designing the assignments can be a complicated project particularly when the Council wants to do a good job. Since it’s a bishop’s duty to make sure a parish has a pastor I speculate that, while clergy assignments are still in progress, parochial administrators are assigned to some parishes to address Fr. Hon’s duty to make sure a parish doesn’t go without a pastor.

    2. Thanks, Rose. Probably the main reason Fr. Karl has only been installed as administrator and not pastor is because he is not incardinated in this diocese, and still considered a "guest priest." This is actually an injustice Apuron used to control the Filipino priests and keep them submissive. Some of these priests have been here for up to three decades. Hon, or whoever succeeds him needs to address this.

    3. ah yes, thanks for the explanation. and i agree, fr karl's status needs to be addressed. he'd been at st anthony for many years. i will miss seeing him there.

Yes, it is an injustice. There is a letter from Fr. Apuron to one of Filipino priests that you embedded in one of the JungleWatch articles where Fr. Apuron almost explicitly writes the condition that that priest must join the NCW practice or his “guest priest” status in the archdiocese will not be renewed. Add this to the long (and growing) list of Fr. Apuron’s terrible deeds during his administration (better yet, during his LACK of administration). The Fr. Karl situation is one of those that fall into the “several other considerations” that I wrote about above. Church politics is also one of those considerations. This is an example of what makes the Presbyteral Council’s job with clergy assignment dizzying. My hope is that the Council is being thoughtful about this project. The recent list of assignments you posted yesterday indicates to me that the Council has been thoughtful. The young Neo priests don’t have administrative and pastoral experience, nor was acquiring those administrative principles and skills a significant part of their formation. I am happy to see that they have been rotated out of their pastor assignments. The parish suffers when such a pastor is at their helm.

    5. Rose, just for the sake of clarity for readers who may not know, Apuron and Hon are archbishops and are no longer addressed as "Fr." "Abp." is the correct abbreviation. Or you can just address them by their last names. Or in the case of Apuron, "Tony Baloney" has gained acceptance. :)

Thanks, Tim. I hate writing titles for the trivial and no other reason than the titles are lengthier to type when I'm writing. Yet, on the other hand, it feels weird for me refer to them by just their names. Even when I refer to a priest with an element of disrespect such as Fr. David-the-Lurch, I still feel compelled to use "Fr." before his name. So I just use the "Fr." title before the clergy names justifying to myself that at the very base of who they are in the context of the Church's clergy hierarchy, they are priests/Fathers. I can see your point that they may cause confusion to readers.

    7. Thanks for understanding, Rose. Additionally, it is the very fact that the perpetrator is an ARCHBISHOP is what gives this case international prominence. It is extremely unique and highlights - at last - something that has been hidden for a very long time: THE BISHOPS ARE THE PROBLEM. This is why we need to identify Apuron as an Archbishop. It is not honoring or recognizing his office. It is exposing how high up this evil has risen.

In a nutshell, the only significant difference between a pastor and “parochial administrator” is that the "administrator" does not enjoy stability in his office. Meaning, his position is temporary. This means that the bishop can remove him from office whenever he wants and the priest would have no legal recourse. A parish priest (pastor) has stability in his office and cannot be removed unless specific procedures are followed. As far as duties and responsibilities, there is no difference. The newly assigned parochial administrator for Chalan Pago is Fr. Carlos S. Vila.

  19. I have to say it's a bit scary to think of Edivaldo going to DOC and DYA. After some of his juicy talks it's a bit of a concern he will be surrounded by people wearing orage. Many of the kids are street smart and hypersensitive to be able to see right through him. On the other hand he can really be on a mission at DOC. That's if he can hack it now with public information of priests sexually abusing children and the new law that just passed to do something about it. Makes me wonder what happens if there are prisoners who were sexually abused by priests. It is highly possible especially as childhood trauma can effect on going behavior if left untreated and without adequate support. Can inmates sue the church while they are in prison. For some victims who were abused can also become abusers. As we see in priests or families.

  20. Well, Well, After all the complains received by the chancery against Edi Boy, Hon finally made the best decision ever, Put Udu at DOC where he belongs, Maybe he can educate the inmates on monkey masturbation, and at the same time sucking the juices dry from orange jumpsuits, er I mean Oranges. Hang in there edi boy, you will have company as soon as we fine brother Ton.

  22. Where is Adrian going to live? It's been the long standing in Malesso & Umatac that they had the one priest between the two parishes and that Pale' stayed in the Konbento in Malesso. Is there a Konbento in Umatac? Sorry if I'm out of the loop if there is, I've been away since 2007.

    1. He can live in that beautiful house in Barrigada and make that trek down to Umatac every day except that I am guessing he will have to drive himself. There is this thing now-a-days called "Go To Meeting" and he can communicate via that method - not that I am thinking that it will ever get used!

I am just so thankful that he is OUT OF BARRIGADA!

      MY GOD IS GOOD!
