MEMOS FOR BISHOP BYRNES

In order to assist Bishop Byrnes for the monster of a task he has here in Guam after 30 years of destruction thanks to Archbishop Apuron, we will use this page as a single place to deposit comments and link relevant posts. Also the tabs FILE BOX and REFERENCES will be of particular help.

COMMENTS
And here are some particularly useful comments. Please add your comments to this page as usual.

The NCW is very harmful. Speak to people that try or tried to leave.. you get the real smell of it then.. I really feel for the thousands of good guys misled by this group and follow anything the catacists say. I was forever being told this is God's will for you. That is serious pressure and when I tried to leave I was called awful names, disowned and demonised. I've gotten over the abuse I received and just feel sorry for them. I'm sad you good folks in Guam are going through this.. I believe this is just the beginning. The poor Pope has a nightmare situation to deal with. I pray he has the strength and courage to see the reality and deal with it in the best way to protect the church and help the poor NCW members that are misled.

When an Arch Bishop visited my NCW community before I left. We put on an act. A bit like teachers do for a inspection. Some people were told not to attend which is shocking. Others were told to prepare what's called an Echo after the Gospel to control who spoke. But an Echo is meant to be inspired at the time not prepared. That worried me. I was shocked at this and they tried and seemed pull the wool over the Arch Bishops eyes. I woundered why...I could say alot more but tbh I'm just delighted I'm Out of it. Your Bishop who intends to meet the NCW people would be wise to know that they will be very very charming and impressive but behind his back if he doesnt accept them, they will say he is against them... I know. My advice to the church would be to put a few secret agents in the NCW and let them see it all.. but be mindful it would need to be someone that has a strong unbreakable mind. Good Luck Bishop Byrnes. You're going to need all the gifts of the Holy Spirit to see the TRUTH about the NCW

Archbishop Byrnes, there is no "both sides" of issues. In Church matters, there is only Good against Evil; Right against the Wrong. Please do not take three or four months to study these problems. Consult the Laity leaders. Many in your Clergy have been too complacent and protective of their positions and comfortable lives. The Laity have exposed these corrupt leaders and the perverts in the Clergy. You are a theologian and a Scripture scholar; you should be able to see through the veneer of the NCW teachings and practices. They must be stopped and kicked out of this Archdiocese before or when Apuron is removed as Archbishop of Agana. When you do this, your flock will be endeared to you, as these Neocats who have deceived our friends and relatives to believe that they will be better Catholics if they "walk in the Way" are the root cause of the division because of how Apuron has empowered them by using his office to give them whatever they want, from ordaining ill-formed priests to giving them an asset of the Church worth over $40 million with no return benefit to the local Church in violation of Canon Law. So, Archbishop Byrnes, please do not take more than a few days to get your feet on solid ground. Take action quickly, Your Excellency. Thank you.

memo to BISHOP BYRNES :

Perhaps the most telling of the divisive action of the Neocatechumenal Way is the fact that a person of the Roman Rite (which they themselves claim to be) who wishes to receive the Eucharist on the tongue (The Norm) IS NOT PERMITTED. They deny Jesus to anyone who will not open up their hands to receive Communion "their Way".
Another point which is very telling is that no male is allowed to attend their NCW seminaries - unless you are a member of the Neocatechumenal Way. They seemingly don't want any resistance to the manner which they celebrate "their Mass."

Another way for Bishop Byrnes to help heal the Church on Guam is to ask Rome to provide the documentation that apuron, to this date, cannot find and report to us on Guam his findings, one way or the other. This should be a simple matter (an e-mail? a phone call?). BTW, hon should have done this from the beginnning, to promote "unity" as hon is so fond of saying.

So Filoni selects a Bishop who is not familiar with Guam, but more importantly someone with little to no knowledge of the NCW, its protestant teachings, and inherently divisive nature, someone Filoni can send on a mission to mend a divided church. The only problem is the divided church is only a symptom of a greater evil that is due primarily due to the existence of the NCW underground movement.

While Byrnes is shocked by his appointment to an island he hardly knows, and his great mission to fix a church where members are just not getting along, He is told by Filoni of the great numbers coming out of the NCW seminary and is somehow convinced that great numbers = great fruits, never having sampled the fruit himself to know if they are in fact good.

Seems like another NCW tactic, Baffle the person, in his confusion, convince him that the NCW is a blessing from God, and send him on an important mission to fix troubles in the church.

BTW Did not Jeff not provide Byrnes a report of the deficient seminary? or was he told by rome not to discuss this matter with the new bishop? Who is advising Byrnes other than Filoni Baloni?

I say we have a big job to inform our new bishop of the findings that have exposed the evil fruits of the NCW in Guam. God help us all.
This all a bit discouraging if you accept that Byrnes is being directed and guided by Filoni. If he doesn't shut down the RMS as recommended, then he intends to carry on Apuron's mission of ordaining malformed priests or should we continue to call them Presbyters. Anything short of closing down the NEO seminary will be an indication that Abh Byrnes does not recognize or refuses to recognize the problem the Catholic faithful have experienced and endured at the hands of poorly prepared ordained "priests" from the RMS. Or could it be that he just doesn't care and intends to do what he believes is the right course of action to take." We shall see. At this point in time, the Catholic faithful who support our local church cannot & will not give the money necessary to continue the operation of the NEO Seminary for full upkeep and maintenance. Therefore, it will be interesting to see what Abh Byrnes intends to do. Will he try to appeal to the people and convince them to follow his lead as Guam's newest Shepherd? Will out church continue to be divided over continuing to make nice with the Neos? Again, we shall see.

Don't expect any significant corrective action from Byrnes. Not much will change. All he'll do is smile and claim to feel your pain. Do not trust him.

If Apuron returns to Guam, it won't be until his retirement at age 75 in less than four years. There are plenty of places for him to hide in luxury until then.

Sadly, I don't think any of the abuse lawsuits against Apuron and other local perverts will succeed. Byrnes is no friend of the suffering victims. He knows exactly where Apuron is, but he's not talking on orders from Rome.

byrnes's responses don't surprise me. the set of developments regarding his appointment, as well as his early statements ("i report to..."), had hints and smells of filoni from the beginning.

what's surprising to me is how quickly he worked to take back the yoña property.

what's not surprising is that he wants to keep rms running. closing that operation would struck a blow to the ncw worldwide, so of course filoni and the ncw powers will want to make sure it stays open. i'm sure they have enough $$ worldwide to not even have to depend on local money. so this kind of shows that byrnes does see himself as reporting to filoni.

50 years of crap has taught us this: always, always, the archbishop--whoever he is--must be held accountable.

We had such high hopes for Guam with the announcement of Abp Byrnes. Finally an outsider to look objectively at our situation and decide on a corrective course of action.
Instead, what we see is a blind decision to move forward with the status quo with an assumption that nothing was wrong to begin with. Here's why so many people feel this way.
The highest level of blindness is that he says: "The seminary has produced, from what I understand, good fruits, not only for Guam but for other diocese in the Oceana region."
Our response: you can certainly say what you will about the caliber of fruits from RMS, but has he taken the time to look at these guys? Michael Jucutan is a train wreck. Edwin Bushu is a mental breakdown waiting to happen. Edivaldo good fruit? PLEASE. Alberto is nothing pastoral, my way or the highway, and damn local customs. Fabio was run out of town for being so insensitive to his parishioners. Francesco barely speaks english, but enough to say that Guamanians only problem is that they spent meeelllions on funerals. Luis Camacho likes young girls and beaches. Krystof from my parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe has a real chip on his shoulders. Some of the kids love him, but he still has no tact, and focuses way too much on the NCW, and ignores the rest of the parish. Harold Colorado missing in action. Pedro Durango missing since the week after his ordination. 9 out of 15 that are seriously lacking priestly abilities. Some of the other 6 are salvagable, but the NCW chokes their ability to serve the "normal catholics" the way they might like. And of those 6 maybe priests, 3 are not serving Guam, but are elsewhere.
The Neos always say look at our fruit, but few bishops look beyond the numbers to see the quality vs quantity. But believe me Abp Byrnes, when we are forced to sit in the pews and listen to these guys, its quality that matters. And we haven't seen shining fruit in most cases. Compare them to Richard Kidd who is a product "good fruit" of a real seminary.
Oh, and by the way Abp Byrnes, no priests have been ordained for other diocese from the RMS Guam romper room. Those diocese have pulled out their young men before they were permanently deformed by Guam RMS.

continuation....

So, Abp Byrnes, I really hope you rethink those bold, yet uninformed comments when you finally return to Guam. But a few more things you should ponder. Rather than just listening to the RMS staff and the Neos, you might want to look at the 140 page ad hoc committee report. They have quite a different perspective. And these are priests who have served the Archdiocese for many years, all of them highly respected by Church members.
It is ridiculous to think that a diocese our size can make economic justification for a full blown seminary. Sorry, but the people of Guam have no interest in forming priests for the rest of the world. Maybe shame on us, but let LA, Detroit, Rome, New York form priests for the rest of the world. We are just too small to take this on at this point. You of all people should know this. Hasn't your AFC told you how bad your financial situation is? Then why seek a more expensive program internally than ship "qualified and local men" to St Patrick's or Mt Angels? It really makes no sense. You don't see the diocese of Houma-Thibodeaux in Louisiana with their own seminary, or an NCW seminary, do you? Their population is similar to ours, 205,000 total people, and 130,000 Catholics. We'd love to help the world cause, but we just can't. And even if we could, we'd have a lot more pride sending real priests to China and Africa and Qatar, and not the products we've exported so far.
The ad hoc report was pretty clear that full time professors are necessary but not available at RMS Guam. How would you possibly fix this problem with the limited numbers of local vocations, and the limited resources available on Guam?
I'm sorry Abp Byrnes, but your quick and uneducated comments about the local Church have gotten you off to a very rocky start. Upon your return, I really urge you to consult with Guamanians, and not foreign Kikos who don't look at our issues objectively, and not Filoni who seems to have other goals than fixing our local problems.
Your great uncle was your inspiration because he brought 300,000 people to the faith in sub-saharan Africa. Let you legacy be bringing 130,000 Catholics out of despair and foreign occupation, not protecting the interests of 500 break-away NCWs.
Good luck in your choice.

My only advice to Archbishop Byrnes is, do not be fooled by lies you will be told about how "Catholic" the NCW is because they are not. Listen to people who have left that organization who sensed they were in a cultish sect that was not Catholic at all. It is all about the money to them to be using our Church's resources while accumulating power and wealth. With Apuron and anyone as weak and corrupt as the head of this archdiocese, they would have succeeded in hiding the evil and filth they brought on this very Catholic community "with seeds sowed in fertile grounds" for over 300 years. Church leaders and the clergy were respected, trusted, and revered. Apuron destroyed that trust and respect when we, the laity, discovered he was corrupt and narcissistic and wantonly squandered our resources for himself and his ass-kissers, and his cabal of weak and corrupt clergymen. The NCW leaders saw an opportunity to use those very traits of Apuron to their advantage to takeover this archdiocese, and methodically worked o. This plan for nearly twenty years. They would have stealthily done so if not for the Faithful laity who were inspired by the Holy Spirit to battle this evil. It took a series of events over the course of several years for the truth about Apuron and the NCW to surface. And the battle ensued to save our local Church. So, Archbishop Byrnes, you should not look "at both sides" to decide what is the best and diplomatic way to deal with this division, mistrust, and loss of respect of the Church leaders and of some in the clergy? There is only one side and that is the side of good vs.evil. Do not discuss this matter with everyone under the sun to see the best way to "can we all just get along?" You must remove the NCW from all the parishes and not allow them to operate within the borders of our Archdiocese. "They are a Jewish-Protestant sect with a Catholic decoration." Do not be fooled. I pray for your enlightenment and success. Do not let us down.

  3. Bishop,

I would like to see consistencies in the way the liturgy is cebelated at each Holy Mass. Please make sure that the entire clergy is following the liturgy of the Eucharist with reverence especially before and during Holy Mass. Therese

  4. Dear Archbishop Byrnes. The very first human being* you should get to meet up with when you get to Guam, talk to personally and ask for guidance and assistance as you embark on your mission, is a woman. She is known to us – the people you are commissioned by the Pope to bring healing to – as SANTA MARIAN KAMALIN.

I suggest that from the Guam International Airport, you instruct your driver to stop by her home at the Cathedral in Agana (before you head up the hill to your residence at Cuesta San Ramon Hill), visit her and ask her to be your guide as you tour the island, meet its people – the People of God – and talk to them about their problems. She is totally unbiased, and knows what is best for ALL of us. Ask her to make you a holy shepherd to lead her Son’s Divine Flock to the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church (one Faith, one Hope, one Baptism), and to make her Son’s prayer to His Eternal Father the Crowning Jewel of this archdiocese – “that they may be One, even as You and I, Father, are One… ut unum sint”.

You know this woman, Your Excellency, under so many different titles – especially when she appeared to Jacinta, Francesco and Lucia at Fatima 99 years ago – Our Lady of Fatima. Perhaps she will usher “peace to men of good will” (pax hominibus bonae voluntatis) under your leadership when we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Fatima next year - 2017. I make this prayer for you at my nightly Rosary before I go to bed – “To Jesus, through Mary – Ad Jesum per Mariam”. You will get to experience the Faithful’s great devotion to Santa Marian Kamalin in a few weeks when we celebrate her Patronal Feast on December 8, Feast of the Immaculate Conception - so great a devotion we have for her that even our civil government has made her day a legal holiday in Guam.

We welcome you to Guam and to our archdiocese, Archbishop Byrnes. For sure your departure from Detroit will be a great loss to that part of the Lord’s Vineyard - but all for the love of God as the Jesuits would say (Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam) and as the Franciscans would say (Sit Amore Dei). God bless you, Archbishop Byrnes. – Respectfully, Joe R. San Agustin; 11/7/16.

*I refer to her as "human being" because the Dogma of the Assumption of Mary teaches us that because of her unique privilege of being conceived without sin (Immaculate Conception), she was free of the consequences of Original Sin, including death. Therefore her body, as well as her soul, was assumed into Heaven. Thus, she is a
"human being" like the rest of us - body and soul. And thus our unique veneration (hyperdulia vs dulia) of her. (Somebody, correct my Roman Catholic dogmatic theology, if I am wrong.)

  5. Dear Archbishop Byrnes, for a brief introduction to the NCW, refer to the book titled Sorting out Catholicism : a brief history of the new ecclesial movements by Massimo Faggioli which has some reference to the NCW (a neutral point of view).

  6. Archbishop Byrnes - Please listen to the pleas of your people, and unite all Catholics - those who truly are and those who only claim to be - in the beliefs and practices of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. I pray that the Holy Spirit ALONE be your Advisor and Counsellor in your mission that there be but ONE FAITH, ONE HOPE, ONE BAPTISM. Rid our Church of all heresies and heretical practices. 7. Dear Archbishp Byrnes:

Read the ad hoc committee report and talk to its members to get an unbiased perspective of the seminary.

Also be aware that there is some pretty crazy teachings going on that should have concerned your successor, but he was already blinded by the "fruits" to see the realities. One of the most glaring was a professor from RMS who was teaching deacon seminarians and stated that Jesus was a sinner and needed the forgiveness of the Father. I didn't believe it when I first heard someone tell me what they learned in class. But the deacons had recorded the lesson so I heard the actual recording and it's true. A professor teaching us that Christ was a sinner.

What else are the men in Yona being taught that we haven't heard? Pretty scary. Please get more background before you make a decision on the RMS Yona, because it really makes no sense.

    God bless

  8. Responsible Leadership is, of course, Guam Need.

    Dear Archbishop Byrnes,

“In religion, a saintly priest or minister or rabbi has just a good congregation; a good priest, minister or rabbi has only a mediocre flock; and a mediocre priest, minister or rabbi has a faithless following. So in politics, education, and world government. Those in position of responsibility must have learned to tame themselves before they can tame others; they must even have learned to obey before they can command obedience. Honesty in them will beget honesty in others.
What happens to the world has already happened to human minds. Statesmen and educators who have forgotten the moral struggle within themselves, or else have capitulated to evil by denying either goodness or responsibility will always make the group or nation over which they have control less moral than themselves.
It is time now to reverse the process and to look for the few who have first fought the battle within and won it, and thereby earned the right to fight the battle without and win it. Water rises no higher than its sources; the masses rise no higher than the leaders who use them for their purposes.
A few who become more free by serving Truth in their minds and goodness in their wills, will alone release beneficent impulses in a world that needs them so badly."
~ Venerable, Fulton J. Sheen, Responsible Leadership is World Need, 1952. November 16, 1952
