WHY HON IS ABOUT TO RUN AGROUND

Sent to me by a military friend. 



Organizations of any size are usually operated by two kinds of executives, one called command the other staff. Military organizations are populated by an abundance of staff officers but few commanders. A commander is responsible for all that happens that shouldn’t and vice versa.  Staff officers are logisticians, planners and others who act in support of commanders. In the military, commanders have great authority to accomplish great responsibility.  It takes a while to be chosen for command of large organizations.  Along the way an officer would hold several staff and command positions to prepare him for “the big one.”   Only the best are chosen for large or important  command billets.

Our church fits into the above description quite well. Diocesan bishops are the commanders. All other bishops are staff officers. The diocesan bishop is held to blame for all that he has done and all that he has failed to do. He has great authority to go along with great responsibility. Many hold the rank of bishop but never “command” a diocese, i.e. serve as diocesan bishops.

Our diocese suffered through the “command” of a priest who should have never been selected to run our diocese or even a parish.  We are now suffering because of 30 years of Apuron.  Bad for us again because our current quasi archbishop isn’t qualified for such a tough job as cleaning up after Apuron.  Hon has served only as a “staff officer.” Hon has never held command. Hon has never been a diocesan bishop. 

It’s as though a battleship is about to run aground and the Navy sends in a captain who has never commanded anything larger than a desk.

All hands general quarters!

  1. AB Hon, first obligation using the analogy of a "ship on fire," is to put out the fire. After the fire is out, then he can begin to repair the damage akin to parish visits, reorganization, etc. Right now forming committees etc., can be done after addressing and finding solutions to the problems plaguing the Diocese. Time is not on your side AB Hon, "Guam is burning" so put away your fiddle and do what you were sent out here to do. Forming Committees is a cope out. You alone are responsible to successfully come up with the solutions that can bring peace and harmony to our Church.

  3. The following is a Gospel Reflection for July 8, 2016 written by Mike Kavan from Creighton University. Many of the reflections this week have been appropriate for our current situation.

    "As I reflect on today’s Gospel, I have tried to put myself in the shoes of Jesus’ apostles. Here I am, listening to instructions from Jesus and he is telling us to go out and spread the word of God, but, by the way, you are going to be like sheep amongst wolves, you will be handed over to courts for what you say and do and be scourged, you will be hated, you will flee from town to town, and..…YIKES!"

    "I have to be thinking that the Apostles are asking, “Did I really sign up for this?” Unfortunately, I think I would have backed down and said thanks, but no thanks. Amazingly and thankfully, the Apostles did not. Their connection with Jesus was so strong. So compelling was the message that they not only did not back down, but they went out with a fervor that influences us today."

    "As I reflect on what this means to me, I first thank the Apostles for having the courage to deliver the message since it provides true hope and purpose. I also do my best to tap into the Holy Spirit and to be strong when confronted with situations where it would be far easier to give in and sin. As with the Apostles, Jesus sends us out as well. Now, it may not be to governors of the Roman Empire, but he does want us to live God’s message through our interactions with family members, co-workers, friends, and others. And although this may, at times, cause internal and external conflict, it is through our faith, words, and actions that we breathe life into the words of Jesus and prepare ourselves to endure, to celebrate, and to be saved not only temporally, but eternally."

His actions of setting up committees to give him wise counsel, placing people who are the very cause of division in charge of these committees and relying solely on the clergy as his source of information are signs of lack of experience. An attorney trying to make a more informed decision always consults all parties involved obtaining factual information to arrive at the truth. Hon's approach appears to be one sided consultation, Commander Hon, there are always two sides of a story. In the words of Donald Trump; "You're Fired!"

  5. AB Hon,put away your "rose colored" glasses to see the elephant (NCW)in the room. NEO's and Catholics are like oil and water. You need to address this issue. Stop dancing arond the problem. There will be no PEACE as long as the presbyters are in charge of our parishes. Take this pledge to the bank!!!!!!!!

  6. I am not questioning his qualifications as an Archbishop, but as a manager sent out to resolve the issues with the Catholic Church, he is entirely out of his league. He is way out of his element and his solutions by committee approach. Hon, the clock is ticking and there has been zero progress demonstrated by your efforts. The division is serious please do what you were sent to accomplish. Committees will no resolve the issues. Being frank and brave is the only way to deal with it. The Catholics of Guam not your neo-friendly boss are the ones affected.

  7. Very astute prognosis of Hon! All hands on deck! Christian soldiers continue to defend the faith from heretical marauders, pathological pedophiles and puppet masters.

    It really doesn't matter what Hon does unless we know what action will be taken against Apuron. So far, it's been presented that there is a possibility that Apuron would be back as Archbishop of Agana & that it's just a matter of time and that Hon's job is to set the stage for that to occur. If this were to happen, this would be very tragic and a slap in the face of the true Catholic Faithful. It would also cause an uproar such as never been seen. So, if you think we have problems in our Church now, send Apuron back and you'll see what "Problems" really mean. Apuron will never be accepted back as Archbishop under any circumstances & I hope Rome fully realizes this when the decision is finally made regarding his fate and status. This Sunday will continue to demand his removal justifiably by laicization by the continuing protests in front of the Cathedral.

    As far as Hon is concerned, all he has done in the time he has been here can be described as cosmetic and window dressing. What a collasal disappointment.

    1. This is exactly the reason why we are calling all Catholic Faithful to come join the picket tomorrow in front of the Cathedral, 9-9:45AM.
      If you truly that Hon has truly failed in his mission to fix the problem Rome sent here to do, if you kn Let's not wait for Rome to re-instate Apuron.

  9. The Peter Principle: getting promoted until you reach your level of incompetence.

    Do priests learn (during formation) about financial management, human resource management, etc.? Should we expect a theologian to be adept in running a parish or diocese without proper study of basic management principles? When a church leader dismisses the advice of the parish council, finance board, legal counsel, etc. big problems are inevitable. The laity has much to offer and should not be cast aside.
