OPEN LETTER TO BISHOP TOMAS CAMACHO

Dear Bishop Camacho:

We understand that you are the uncle of Fr. Luis Camacho. We also undertand that he is staying with you.

Why?

Signed,

Many Catholics on Guam

P.S. Any reason why Rome has not appointed your successor yet? The office has been vacant for nearly five years.

P.P.S. Of course, if in fact you are harboring and/or hiding Fr. Luis, this will be made even more interesting given that in 2008 you were alleged to have gone after a priest of your diocese who was hiding from you.

  1. Could the reason be that after Bishop Camacho dies and there is no Bishop assigned, the Diocese of the Northern Marianas can revert back to the full control of the Archbishop, thus making him Bishop of the entire Marianas Island.

  2. I never doubted Fr.Matthew Blockley.

  4. Highly possible to dissolve CNMi diocese Incorporating Saipan back into the Archdiocese of Agana Guam and the Mariana Island. Much better practical situation. Mount Carmel Cathedral would be reduced to a parish chapel and an episcopal vicar appointed by the Archbishop of Guam to the Northern Marian islands. Saipan does not need to be a diocese as it is proven it cannot stand on its own. Best to bury the See make it a titular Diocese for some auxiliary bishop , and unite the Islands. one Island nation Guam and Mariana islands, one Archbishop, and an episcopal vicar to northern island.

    1. Fixing one problem(the diocese of Chalan kanoa) by throwing it into the midst of another bigger problem (the continuous scandals on Guam) will not solve either problem. It will only serve to compound the problem.
Tony has no desire to fix our problems. He apparently relishes the chaos he has brought upon the church on Guam.
Maybe a better problem is to put us back as a suffragan of a real archdiocese. May archbishop cordeleonr in San francisco. Better yet maybe we should be under cardinal Tagle. He is likely to take a real interest in bringing peace to our island. A success that like would also help him for the next papal election, whenever that time comes.

    2. Place cardinal tagle for six months on Guam he will bring peace and order to the Archdiocese. What Guam needs is an outsider for at least three years to restore order.

I find it curious that "Bishop Emeritus" Tomas Camacho is not encouraging his nephew Presbyter Luis Camacho to return to Guam and cooperate with the "canonical investigation" that we are told is being conducted by his brother presbyters. We recently learned that the "canonical investigation" panel consists only of NCW presbyters since the lone layperson opted out. So why would the "Bishop Emeritus" allow Presbyter Luis to remain in Saipan? Why does he not advise the presbyter to return to Guam since the odds of being exonerated are now 100%?

Inquiring minds want to know … for sure, for sure …

    1. Yes, it appears Bishop Camacho may be obstructing an investigation if he is in fact harboring the suspect.

Thank you Jonathan for your comment. I remember you attending my Ordination back in 1996. At that time you shared with me your concerns and how right you were.
Diocese of Chalan Kanoa suffers a very deep poverty of spirit which has now led to such a deep crisis that episcopal appointments have to be delayed. The administration of the former Bishop can only be described as one great disaster of leadership which will take many years to heal and recover. In time our beloved Holy Father will appoint a new bishop who will begin the healing process of the disaster created by Tomas camacho.

  8. Let us forgive as best we can and ensure that the Holy Father knows your story. It pains my heart to see priests hurting. Please ensure Fr. Matthew that they know your story so that it sets free. The truth must set free so that the devils do not hide anymore. and that this too shall take time for all to heal. My prayers for the People of Saipan.

  9. Dear Bishop Tomas:

You are compounding the problem in Guam by harboring an alleged sex offender. Yes, he is a sex offender under the sexual abuse policy. You are complicit in a conspiracy to hide and thwart the truth. Further, if you want to do something good for Fr. Luis, send him back to Guam. He has to face his troubles head on if he is to salvage his ministry.

  10. What has happened to the high moral standards we used to expect from our priests? Especially the older priests such as Fr. Bibi and now, Bishop Emeritus Tomas Camacho of Saipan. WTF!!!

Unless the older priests also have skeletons in their closets and they do not want to "throw stones" because they, too, are not without sin. (no connection, I know, but I hope you get my point.)

  11. Wow. If fr Luis is staying with his bishop uncle then the bishop shud also be worried since his nieces are also staying with him to care for him. They could be in danger.
Hope hope those girls lock their doors at night!

  12. Countdown clock continues to tick away and we have heard nothing from the fools on the hill. Are they really that inept? Or does their twisted logic really convince them that the proper response to this crisis is no response?

  13. Time needs to fix the situation in Saipan. We have been without a bishop for far too long. We do not need to combine with Guam. We are capable to run in our own but Rome needs to act. Maybe then fr Matthew can finally return home. We desperately need and miss him.

Thank you Kristo Rai. This July will be 23 years a priest. 19 of those years were lived out of the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa because of bishop camacho. We are all history now and much older. what Saipan now needs are new and younger people who can bring the healing to a divided chuch . Bishop camacho left a stale dysfunctional diocese that five years after him Rome is trying to resolve issues.
In the mean time let's pray for Bishop Camacho for his health. Above all I pray he has peace in life. A peace he denied me for 19 years.
