PAT COTTMAN: ARCHBISHOP APURON IS A FAILURE

In Pat Cottman's headline article in this week's U Matuna (03/15/15), we find the real reason the Neocatechumenal Way is on Guam: Archbishop Apuron is a failure.

And here it is, in the words of Pat Cottman:
"They (the neocat missionaries) are fathers, mothers and children who felt called to leave home and establish themselves in areas where Jesus Christ and his Gospel have not yet found roots in the local culture or where Christianity is not as vibrant as before." - Pat Cottman, U Matuna, 03/15/15

So, Ms. Cottman, can you tell us what happened to the vibrant Catholic Church Archbishop Flores and four centuries of courageous Catholic leaders left to Archbishop Apuron in 1986?

Can you tell us what happened in the nearly three decades Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron, D.D., Ofm. Cap., Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Agana, Guam has had to lead this archdiocese?

You can't? Okay, allow me:

• Under Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron, D.D., Ofm. Cap., Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Agana, Guam, the abortion industry found a welcome home in the Archdiocese of Agana, the easiest place in the nation to get an abortion. (1)

• Under Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron, D.D., Ofm. Cap., Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Agana, Guam, Guam became the divorce capital of the world, averaging more divorces per capita than second place Russia. (2)

• Under Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron, D.D., Ofm. Cap., Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Agana, Guam, non-Catholic "churches" proliferated from only a handful in 1986 to more than 60 today. (3)

• Under Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron, D.D., Ofm. Cap. Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Agana, Guam, Guam's suicide rate exploded to 1.2 time the national average and to number 14 in the world. (4)

• Under Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron, D.D., Ofm. Cap. Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Agana, Guam, Guam's out of wedlock birth rate zoomed to a 20% higher rate than the rest of the nation.  (5)

• Under Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron, D.D., Ofm. Cap. Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Agana, Guam, Guam's teen birthrate has climbed to double the national average. (6)

• Under Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron, D.D., Ofm. Cap. Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Agana, Guam's rape rate has ascended to an incredible 94.4 rapes per 100,000 population which is triple the national average. (7)

• Under Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron, D.D., Ofm. Cap. Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Agana, Guam, Guam's child abuse rate is now double the national average.

The argument will be that there are similar trends everywhere. Maybe, but nowhere was there a more vibrant Catholic Church - toughened and deepened by centuries of real and extreme suffering and sacrifice (not your phony "persecutions")- than there was on the island of Guam.

And under Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron, D.D., Ofm. Cap. Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Agana, Guam, that Catholic Church went from one of the most vibrant devout Catholic cultures in the world to number one in almost all of society's ills.

And Archbishop Apuron's solution to all of this?

Import the neocats who degrade and impugn the Catholic practices that once made Guam a Catholic stronghold. And oh yes, take our money and go on lots of trips with his presbyter-pets. But hey, he kept the casinos out. So he can't even blame the moral collapse of Guam on gambling.

"As the church goes so goes the world." And as the church leadership on Guam has gone, so has Guam gone.

But let's not just blame poor Archbishop Apuron. Of 20 of those 30 years he has been the Archbishop of Guam, a certain Fr. Pius and a certain Pat Cottman have been running this archdiocese - or more precisely, running the Archbishop.

Pius and Cottman are the "neocatechumenal responsible team" for Guam. So yep, probably more than Apuron himself - who only obeys them, THEY are more "responsible" for the moral destruction of this island and the collapse of the Catholic Church than Apuron is.

Ms. Cottman, take Pius and go! before the people rise up and throw you out like they did to Mr. Bordallo last week. Go find some place else to destroy and let us put ourselves back together. Oh, and give us back our hotel on your way out.

Footnotes

(1) Until 2008 when the Esperansa Project began pushing for pro-life legislation, Guam had NO legal protections for the unborn, making it the most dangerous place in the nation for the unborn and their mothers. Since 2008 the number of abortions reported annually on Guam has fallen from 327 to 209. However, the number of abortions on women identifying themselves as Chamorro has risen from 60% to 73% of all abortions (2014 Abortion Report)

(2) Guam has the highest divorce rate in the world (4.7 divorces per 1000 population, 2010 Guam Statistical Yearbook vs Russia 4.5 per 1000, 2011 United Nations Demographic Yearbook. Guam began permitting no-fault divorce in 1997 with no objection from the Catholic Church.)

(4) World Health Organization and A Profile of Suicide on Guam, September 2011

(5) Guam has a 20% higher out of wedlock birth rate (60%) compared to the rest of the nation (40.8%, CDC 2010) Note: Guam stopped reporting “illegitimate” births in 2005. 60% is based on the average between 2000 and 2005).

(7) Guam’s rape rate is 94.4 per 100,000 (2011 Yearbook: 151 reported rapes). This is nearly triple the national average of 29.8. (U.S. Census Bureau, Statistical Abstract of the United States: 2012, Table 314)

(8) Guam child maltreatment rate of 76.81 per 1000 children based on 2012 CPS report and 2010 census vs 41.2 per 1000 children national average as per Table 3-2, Child Maltreatment 2011, Children’s Bureau, U.S. DPHHS

Very interesting article. Unfortunately past years many of us have sat and watched the decay of the archdiocese of agana Guam and the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa. Cause of decay in both diocese is the leadership of both bishops. This all led to the present tragic position of these dioceses. So I have to agree with Mr. Tim Rohr. What exactly has the present Archbishop of Guam contributed to the Archdiocese?

  2. My question to Pat Cottman, If Jesus told us that we can tell the tree by the fruit that it produces (Matt 7:16,17). Has the NCW produced a more vibrant catholic church in Guam? I see the fruits of a divided catholic church, with leaders who refuse to answer or give an account for their questionable actions. We see the establishment of a cult whose actions seperate them selves in their communities from the general population of believers, have their seperate liturgy, seperate celebration of the word, and extol themselves as the elect, and "The Way" to salvation, and believing that outside of this cult, one is lost.

Guam's Faithful oppose the divisive nature of the NCW for the following reasons:

    - This cult's lack of sensitivity or respect to the culture that they are trying to evangelize is one
that stands out - Forcing Kiko's songs, art, music, liturgical practice on faithful, and regarding
beliefs of the local faithful as heathen practices.
    - Local Church leaders forcing the indoctrination of this cult's belief upon the Guam faithful.
Faith is God's free gift for us to freely choose, it should not be forced on anyone. AAA
slowly implementing his NCW Presbyters at parishes throughout the Island, with the plan
for Guam to eventually be fully NCW parishes..
    - Theology that appears to be Protestant in nature taught in the seminaries and eventually put
into practice by NCW Presbyters at each parish.
    - Liturgical Practices not fully compliant to church norms.

Pat, opposition to the NCW is not isolated to Guam, Bishops in the Holy Land, and Japan and other places have voiced their concerns about the divicive nature of this cult. However non speaks more clearly than that of our Lord Jesus Christ who tells us "He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters(Matt 12:30).

Is the NCW Gathering or Scattering???

    1. While I in no way shape or form support the ncw, and I agree with what you say, the " celebration of the word" is really a sort of bible study, one that all catholics should should be doing, aside from assisting at the Sacrifice of the mass on sundays. Having said that, I think I understand why kiko doesn't want to use the Eucharistic prayers of the church. -
"May the Lord accept the SACRIFICE at your hands, for the praise and glory of His name..."

    2. The very essence of The Eucharistic Celebration (Mass) is Biblically based, In other words, we do not just read Scripture, We live it and experience it at every mass celebrated, and if understood in the correct perrspective should not end at the culmination of mass, but become a part of our everyday life.

  3. What is Pat Cottman's title anyway in the hierarchy of the NCW? I always thought she was Pius' nursemaid.

    1. Seems she has more power than that! Not appropriate for woman and priest to be together all the time for years. Period. Pius does not drive. She drives and they also have a seminarian with them all the time too. Now seems she is showing her stuff. Go Pat! Strut your stuff as a responsible! In print, no less.

    9. might this be why tony and the hill gang do what they do?

The Neocats are taught that just as the Sacrifice of the Mass is a pagan introduction --- so is the priesthood. There were no priests in the early Church --- the laity ran all the "communities" and held the Eucharistic "meal". The priesthood came about as a way for a greedy Church to suppress the Holy Spirit in the people and their ability to consecrate. This was so the Church could gain power and control.

  4. Off topic, but the early Catholic missionaries to the island of Guam plus many other areas converted people to the church partially out of force but also by doing many things to improve the natives standard of living. I look at the NCW and it appears they are only attempting to convert mostly practicing Catholics to the NCW and are doing very little for the people or the church of Guam. It is all to improve their own organization.

Another example is the NCW’s presence in the Dominican Republic. They have been there for many years and have over 500 communities and a seminary. They share an island with Haiti. Haiti not that long ago use to be 98% Roman Catholic and the percentage has been declining, especially now since the earthquake 5 years ago. Haiti is now 80% Catholic or perhaps lower. The NCW could have made a difference and done something to help the people of Haiti and also help stem the exodus of people from Catholicism. Many people have left the church as they were exposed to other religions coming into the region to help the people. Perhaps a blessing for Haiti, but only recently has the NCW made itself known to Haiti, and not to help the people but for the purpose of selling priests on the idea of the NCW. http://feliciansistershaiti.com/2014/10/17/neocatechumenal-way-presents-themselves-to-the-diocese-of-jacmel/

The NCW is gaining converts to its movement via methods of control and coercion and not by its good deeds.

  6. A contributor to Diana's wonderland gives us THE QUOTE of the day! "This proves how uncatholic the timmies are. We in the way need to take over all the parishes by force. This typhoon is a sign that our lord and savior is unhappy and the Holy Father has encouraged us in the way to continue with our mission. Let's save our island first. Let's take over all the parishes! Let the way lead. Let's lead the way! "

Since I guess I'm among the FALLEN Diana refers to us as....this makes me flat as a pancake. the NERVE. Won't take them long either.

    1. If the NCW took over all the parishes, they would soon fall in disarray, due to lack of funds to maintain them. The money the NCW collects does not go to the parish but after a share goes to the bishop and the neocatechumenal responsible team, the rest is eventually funneled to The Family of Nazareth Foundation for Itinerant Evangelization founded in Madrid in 1992. The Foundation helps to support the mission families, seminaries, Domus Galilaeae, as well as paying for the bishops invited to meetings to have the Way explained to them, etc. The Neos need the NonNeos to keep the parishes financially solvent and pay for the priests.

  7. More drivel from the Neo propaganda machine. Yes, it is truly their intention to take over ALL the parishes on Guam. Let's brace ourselves for the Neo storm that threatens our island.

  8. I'm afraid we were trying to tell you for years but only Tim went public. Overall plan of the NCW is to take over Guam and Saipan and make it the hub of Asia pacific. Until Guam's Catholics join CCOG and mr. Tim Rohr it will continue. Result being native people of Guam will no longer own their church or their land. Guam people will become foreigners on their own island. Do you want that? Be Nationalistic or lose your island. Reality.

  10. We need to cleanse all of our Parishes from these two parasites simply known as kikoitus and pius fowleri. Both parasites attack the brain and benefit at the expense of the host. There is a cure for this disease and can be found in the One True Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. It is called FAITH.

I like how members of the new talks about non neos for haveing dirty minds when most of the new is built mostly on petiphiles, and rapists, but yet that are so quick to humiliate an x con who has paid for his mistakes while the neo criminals are still at large. You can catch these neo ponds trying to justify their actions but we are not the judge of law so if you want to justify yourselves confess and pay your dues because the longer you wait The heftier the load gets by the day. You neos are right were we want you.

  13. When will this confusion/division stop. We're on a dinky island, small amount of people with a huge problem. We continue to speak of Jesus and at the same time unaware causing Him more pain. I admire someone using Jesus' photo as a profile pic cause it tells me that this person speaks with true volume whole heartedly respects and obeys Jesus to His standards, not mans. But how can this be when such a person who does can make the call, and automatically tells someone they are a "Fallen Angel." Rather be concerned for souls and do something good for that soul. This raised a red flag for discerning good from bad. It's nobodies JOB nor DUTY to make such decision but for The Son of Man-not us human. Respectfully, It's time for Jesus' photo to come down. All take FEAR of His Words that lives forever, and not one can change it.
    The True Disciple.*
Matthew 7: 21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

God bless you Achbishop Anthony Apuron, I'm praying for you!

"Encouragement of shepherds of the church (priests and bishops) to tend their flocks in the pattern of the Chief Shepherd (Jesus Christ) - with Divine Love and Mercy - not lording over under constraint of obedience or for self-gain. 1. There is no confusion here because the TRUTH has set us free. The division exists because of your beloved archbishop who turned rogue on the flock. If you fail to see this then you need to pray harder and more often.

When we received the Sacrament of Confirmation, we accepted the call to practice our faith as an adult -- to inquire, discern and ultimately be a light of truth amidst the darkness.

  14. Are the traveling nuts here to do a scrutiny for those who are receiving Baptism on Easter Sunday. I believe today is scrutiny Sunday. Makes me wonder who pays for all the airfare, hotel expenses, food and what not for these nuts. Money must be spilling out of their pockets. Pass the trash bag again...need to fund the nuts who eat nuts on first class.

  15. Leave it to those evil neos to take a downgraded typhoon as a sign that they must take over the Main Church to make it better, to make it neo!

It is so similar to their "Rome has approved it" argument. The typhoon was downgraded, so it means their sign for a hostile take over of the Church no longer stands. God had spoken and said NO to neos!!!

Serves you right... away with you evil neos!

The Neocatechumenate community celebrates Mass with slight variations conceded by the Congregation of the Divine Liturgy and Sacraments (Note of December 19, 1988). After the three Scripture readings and before the homily, members engage in commentary, comparing their readings with their personal experiences. The homily then takes account of the observations made, corrects deviations, and stimulates reflection. Next, as in the Ambrosian rite, is the Rite of Peace. The rite of the Eucharist follows early Christian practices, using unleavened bread and wine.
