APURON WARNS YOU WHO ARE EDITING HIS JOLLIBEE PRAYER

  1. The "Jollibee" prayer? What a big joke! Many people are starting to call it that. These chancery people think that multiplication of words is more effective. What does scripture say about, "Your Father in heaven knows what is in your mind even before you say it." This is a pharisaic method of inundating heaven with words, rather than be content with a simple prayer of the heart. Must we enumerate all the elements in that prayer? Nonsense, and like many have said, symptomatic of the total morass we find ourselves in this archdiocese.
APURON: "While it may seem lengthy, I ask that you refrain from editing the prayer and use the prayer as it is. If you have already edited, please put aside the edited prayer and use the official prayer."  - from Letter RE Golden Jubilee of the Diocese of Agana (Nov 06 2015)

  1. So if you made a comment identifying the parish where the "prayer" is not being said or has been edited, I didn't publish it. However, you can make the comment again without identifying the parish, though feel free to identify yourself.

  2. Apuron, do you not get i? Your abandoned flock is much smarter than you think. We can read the not so subliminal Kiko messages,i.e. reconciliation, evangeligation etc.I cannot in good conscience do you not understand that we no longer trust you. How can we trust someone who has abandoned us and yet continues to wrest money form the laity to support your Sect? You have lost us forever; Step down, step down so that a new Shepherd can begin the healing process.

  3. isn't it ironic how he's asking people to not alter the prayer, when he himself continues to defy the Church's liturgical norms?

    1. Yes, ironic and MORONIC. Jesus kept his prayer simple. No greater prayer than the Lord's prayer.
Hey, just thought of a new word for Tony --APURONIC. JAJAJAJAJAJAJA!!!! How do you like that, Toneee?

      Delete
    2. Yes, ridiculous to ask people to adhere to this moronic prayer but he does not follow the Church Magisterium that he is supposed to uphold. It is like "do as I say, not as I do." Let us hope that Rome does not remain clueless for long.

    3. Isn't theprayeritself a violation of liturgical norms? I thought we were not supposed to introduce any prayer into the mass yet we recite this prayer before the dismissal and recessional.
Isn't that a violation of GIRM?

    4. Yes, it is - a violation. But what does this archbishop care about violations. LOL.

  4. Apuron should take heed from today's readings instead of worrying about his very lengthy NEO prayer that he snuck in right before the Final Blessing of the Mass.

  5. Tim, I noticed you put quotes around the prayer, implying you don't think it's a valid prayer.

I attend the parish that used an edited version and was very happy to recite that one, but after Apuron's message was read, I refused to open my lips to recite the prayer simply because I disliked his implication that wordiness = better (and also I just dislike doing what he wants.)

Perhaps it was a bit petty of me, and maybe I should be concentrating on what the prayer is asking for rather than who's behind it...

What do you think? Is a prayer still a prayer, despite who is behind it?

if I have learned anything about tony, he is a "do as I say, not as I do" individual..
the priest-thing aside, the neo-thing aside, tony as an individual has issues of morality, betrayal of family as well as the church

    3. The Mass is the perfect prayer, but then, the arch neo has had Catholic teaching scrutinized out of him.

      Delete
    4. The only 'legal' way he can do it is to put it in the universal prayer. All these added things should be done outside of the mass.
As if he has done anything but tear apart this diocese. And reconciliation? Really? Show me how you do that fan?

I find the prayer shallow empty written by a man who is not sincere. if he was sincere he would have reached out to reconcile and heal so many of us he hurt over the years. His words do not correspond with his actions. So I don't believe there is any sincerity in him or his prayer. I would simply encourage people too walk out when it is recited as a protest against him. Best way to deal with his fake personality. It is 2015 no one puts up with the crap this guy is giving out.

  7. I don't recite that superficial hypocritical prayer. The "shepherd" of the Archdiocese announced that he would not process out after the 930 Mass because he had a function to attend in Merizo. What a coward! Cannot face the flock!

    1. We were outside of the Cathedral at the prayer protest and noticed that he drove off quickly. Mass was shorter than normal. He was driving away before people even left the church.

    2. He is afraid....afraid of the truth. He really is a good example of "not to be forgiving or to reconcile." Yet he has the audacity to tell us to be forgiving...Lead By Example.

    3. The archbishop explained at the end of his 9:30 a.m. mass today that he had to drive down to Merizo to attend Fr. Pedro Durango's first mass that was to begin at 11 a.m.. Since today's cathedral mass ended at 10:23 a.m. and he had to get there before the 11 a.m. mass was to start in Merizo, he did have to be on his way since the distance from Agana to Merizo is considerable.

    4. That being said Melinda, he could've asked the Rector to celebrate the 930 Mass. It was just an opportune excuse to dodge the faithful in front of the Cathedral.

    5. Excuses, excuses! He could've scheduled the mass at a later time but he's no longer calling the shots here on Guam!

  8. Shall we go to the airport to say good bye? With much joy and laughter?

o much joy, laughter and excitement filled the evening as our shepherd, Most Rev. Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron, OFM, Cap., D.D. celebrated his 70th birthday at the Gala Dinner 2015 held on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015 at the Hyatt Regency Guam in Tumon.

  11. From today's gospel, Mark 12:38

In the course of his teaching Jesus said to the crowds,
"Beware of the scribes, who like to go around in long robes
and accept greetings in the marketplaces,
    seats of honor in synagogues,
and places of honor at banquets.
They devour the houses of widows and, as a pretext
    recite lengthy prayers.
They will receive a very severe condemnation."

THEY DEVOUR THE HOUSES OF WIDOWS AND, AS A PRETEXT RECITE LENGTHY PRAYERS.
THEY WILL RECEIVE A VERY SEVERE CONDEMNATION.

    1. I don't know if you noticed, but upon hearing the gospel at mass, I leaned over to the person next to me and whispered, "Doesn't that sound like the Neo?" The fact that both of us, as well as many others, thought the same thing shows that we've picked up on their pattern of behavior. Of course the Neos are so busy giving each other accolades and condemning the rest of us as being "haters" that they'll be hard pressed to see themselves as the exact kind of people Jesus warned against.

      Delete
  12. Well I guess there's your answer. Apuron warns you you better say the whole prayer so we can encourage reconciliation then he skips out the back door after Mass so he doesn't have to see those with whom he must reconcile. LOL

  13. He is avoiding the people after mass, can't face them, so he dodges them.

  16. I think the edited prayer is a sign of protest by the parish priest. We say the edited version before mass even starts. Now more people are saying it. I hope our priest doesn't get in trouble. He just feels the sentiment of the people like a good shepard.

  17. Since the Mass is the greatest most efficacious prayer we can offerr to God, Would't it be better and more practical to include in the petitions offered an intention for the blessing of the Jubilee year? Lenghty and repititous prayers such as the current jubilee prayers, and all the other prayers only call attention to those who strum up all these extra unnecessary requirements for the faithful. We cannot out do the efforts of Christ in Holy Mass...

    1. I was going to say that the archbishop makes the schedule but then that wouldn't be true.

    2. Excellent suggestion, 3:04 pm. A standard petition within the Prayer of the Faithful will suffice. It is actually forbidden to place so many other things around the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. A liturgist worthy of his or her designation can easily see that these "attached" prayers bastardize the Mass itself. Indeed "we cannot outdo the efforts of Christ made ever-new and ever-present again in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass."

Individuals may be encouraged to pray the jubilee prayer in private and really meditate on the points highlighted in the prayer. Without having to throw out this lengthy and poorly constructed piece, each person can reflect on how he or she can realize the intent of the prayer. The cattle-run style of a kumbaya-style recitation at any given time does not foster an environment of faith maturation. A jubilee such as this ought to also be a time of personal introspection, and not merely join a spectacle cooked up by these know-it-alls-but-unproductive-all-the-way chancery officials. #overkill!

  18. Sorry Melinda at 3:34pm, the archbishop hurriedly cutting out of Mass “for a function to attend" is just another confirmation and straw for the Catholic laity about his overwhelming embrace and acceptance of the neo attitudes, neo practices and neo teachings that disregard everything about what the Universal Catholic Church teaches and about how the Catholic Faith reverently regards the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Talk about evangelization!

He blatantly continues to display his arrogance and disrespect for The Source and The Summit of our Faith, and out rightly refuses to acknowledge and call out the gross and grievous errors of the neo teachings.

This is why we believe that his abandonment of the authentic Teachings of our Catholic Faith and his abandonment of the Catholic flock of Guam are about the only transparencies we will see and the only transparencies will we ever expect to get from him. Sadly, these scandals will be his legacy.

  19. Teri beat me to it so please allow me to paraphrase our Lord, from this Sunday's Gospel. "Beware of the Neos, who like to go around wearing tuxedos to hotels and accept greetings from forced birthday parties, seats of honor at fiestas, and places of honor at banquets or wherever they can force themselves into. They devour the houses of widows and as a pretext recite and force others to recite lengthy jubilee prayers. They will receive a very severe condemnation".

For those who choose to stay through the doctorate discourse or jokabee prayer go to the back of the missalete. I am able to pray the Memorae, Hail Holy Queen, Prayer to St. Michael, Act of Contrition, Prayer before the Crucifix and the Prayer for All Needs before the rest are done with the forced recital. I say the Animas Christi after Communion but you can include that and still have some time left over.
BTW the edited version is so much more prayerful!

    1. I agree, Mr. Joseph A. Santos. The Gospel reading today was apt in the ongoing conversation about "devouring the houses of widows" and the "pretext of reciting lengthy prayers". To foster genuine spiritual life is to cull established prayers that you mentioned to help jumpstart prayers of the heart. The enforced prayers that Apuron has mandated around the periphery of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass are quite indicative of the shallow and showmanship aspect of his prayer life. A faith leader with sufficient depth in the spiritual life or who is at least trying to deepen his or her relationship with God does not enforce group recitation but guides people of faith to delve into the recesses of their innate capacity to reach out to the Divine. The rich deposit of treasures in the Catholic Faith is potent in its power to bring us to God, without having to succumb to post-Vatican II start-ups and opportunists such as kiko and carmen. These two people are reminiscent of the questionable experiments done by Masters and Johnson in the sexual realm. Sadly, the propaganda of NCW is toying with the souls of people who are often vulnerable and much in need of affirmation in their spiritual lives.

    2. Save the money spent on photocopying the prayer. Should have been put together with the cash to buy the $200 plates and those fancy tuxedoes. Think of how many, many people could have been fed!

  20. Archie, ah hmm, I mean Brother Tony is being very sneaky because Matthew 18:20 says "For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.". I refuse to recite that prayer because Brother Tony wants us to get the Lords blessing from the Catholic Faithful for his Jollibee NEO prayer". The Catholic Mass doesn't need to be modified. It's bad enough that the NEO are adding their confessions during the homily. Enough is enough!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I too refrain from reciting this prayer and do not need Brother A to tell which prayer to use. The very first time I read this prayer I automatically knew it came from a NEO which I refuse to be a part of any of their prayer.
