PDN: FIVE MORE CASES MOVED TO FEDERAL COURT

5 more clergy abuse lawsuits filed in federal court

Five former altar boys filed separate multimillion-dollar lawsuits in federal court Wednesday afternoon, alleging they were sexually abused or raped by Archbishop Anthony S. Apuron and former island priest David Anderson decades ago.

Each of the five clergy sex abuse lawsuit demands a jury trial and at least $5 million in general damages, for a combined minimum total of $25 million, plus attorney’s fees and other costs.

  1. If these abuse cases go to trial, the dying archdiocese is doomed. It will never recover financially.

Byrnes' only significant material asset appears to be RMS, but the actual property owner remains unclear. Reportedly, the archdiocese pays for only 3% to 4% of the seminary's upkeep. If so, they have only a minute stake in the property now valued at over $75 million.

The victims would do better with extra-judicial insurance settlements and minimal exposure to an army of lawyers no one can afford.

Most of the $3 billion awarded to US victims of pedophile priests was paid out of Court. Around $1 billion of that was paid by the huge, and still wealthy, Archdiocese of Los Angeles, California.

Lawyers would be the only winners if Guam's 15 abuse victims insist on going into protracted litigation. Court costs alone will be staggering.

    1. How much do you think David, John, and Jackie would make from the litigation? More than the litigants?

    2. Possibly. Lawyers bill by the hour, plus expenses. Licensed investigators alone cost a fortune and bills can be padded.

    3. since the Vatican is now also being sued, will they not be also liable for part, at least, of the judgment if the civil courts rule in favor of the sex victims of apuron & brouillard?
