ANONYMOUS: "BRAIN DEAD GUAM"

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "WHERE IN THE WORLD IS HAROLD?":
Anon 10/23 @9:00 pm, Abp. Cordileone knows exactly what type of seminarians he's getting. So does St. Pat's tough Jesuit Rector.
The Archdiocese of San Francisco is far from perfect, but It's light years from brain-dead Guam.

California has some of the world's top universities and colleges, secular and religious. The SF Bay Area alone is home to UC-Berkeley, UCSF Medical and Dental schools, Stanford U., USF and U.Santa Clara (both Jesuit), St. Mary's and the US Maritime Academy. Add a strong State college system to those.

San Francisco's educational level is very high. Our brilliant former Pastor took a parishoner survey when he first arrived so he'd know what he was dealing with. He was shocked to find out that 97% of his 3,200+ parishoners have at least a Bachelors Degree, with most of us having Masters and professional degrees as well. Most of the churches in this area probably have the same or similar demographics.

  1. So what is your point, We do have a lot of educated people on this island. And many Guamanians obtained their degrees in California and throughout the United States.

    1. If there are any native geniuses in this mess, they must be in deep hiding.

  2. Bay Area chauvinism

This commenter has been a regular participant on the blog for several years.

His thoughts have attracted my attention, as someone who was raised in Marin, has lived in the Marianas for over two decades, and in the Bay Area for over three.

The poster apparently has an in-depth insight into the personalities and workings of the Archdiocese of San Francisco.

Yet people’s strengths are often their weaknesses. So a person who knows a lot can be prone to condescension and being a know-it-all (who really doesn’t).

As Exhibit A, it is the California Maritime Academy that is located in Vallejo. The U.S. Maritime Academy is located in King’s Point, NY.

Likewise, the educational demographics of households in his parish are hardly representative of the Archdiocese of S.F., and certainly not of the whole nine-county metropolitan region. Mathematically impossible.

Even counting tourists, the 200,000 population of Guam is far below that of the Bay Area.

Naturally enough, the Bay Area has greater numbers on the right hand of most bell curves -- as well as at the bottom.

Our friend would do well to display a little more charity and humility in his remarks, if he wants to be taken seriously.

After all, it is NCW Cult presbyters who are flying from GUM to SFO, and not the other way around.

  3. Lol. There was a comment about fruits and nuts and the Castro district that got this nut job going.
It was not meant as and attack against all SFO but I think the comment was meant to show how easy the Kikos could integrate into that segment of SFO living.
Our commenter friend would do well to analyze what helped the NCW to create a train wreck on Guam. If he is a smart guy he may be able to figure it out as many of us on Guam have figured it out.
And then if he is as influential in SFO church activities as he claims, then maybe he can spare the beloved Bay Area a lot of grief and division.

  4. Just like the way my largely rural diocese gets patronised by globetrotting Westminster types.
