THIS SUNDAY

9:50PM UPDATE: HAPPENING AT BARRIGADA PARISH THIS WEEK ALSO. RECORD, RECORD, RECORD

This weekend, the parishes of Agana and Tamuning will once again witness the blatant disobedience of Archbishop Apuron to the Magisterium of the Holy Catholic Church.

By his order, members of the Neocatechumenal Way will take to the pulpit DURING THE MASS to give their testimonies and their "invitation to joy" (the "neo-ad").

If Archbishop Apuron's own example serves, the "invitation" will occur during the time reserved for the homily in CLEAR VIOLATION of the "liturgical books", i.e. the General Instruction of the Roman Missal:
66. The homily should ordinarily be given by the priest celebrant himself. He may entrust it to a concelebrating priest or occasionally, according to circumstances, to the deacon, but never to a lay person. [65] In particular cases and for a just cause, the homily may even be given by a Bishop or a priest who is present at the celebration but cannot concelebrate.

In addition, footnote [65], appearing after the words "but never to a lay person" references the following:
The homily, therefore, during the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, must be reserved to the sacred minister, Priest or Deacon to the exclusion of the non-ordained faithful, even if these should have responsibilities as "pastoral assistants" or catechists in whatever type of community or group
The above instruction is from Art. 3. § 1, of the Instruction ON CERTAIN QUESTIONS REGARDING THE COLLABORATION OF THE NON ORDAINED FAITHFUL IN THE SACRED MINISTRY OF PRIEST which was promulgated as follows:
The Supreme Pontiff, in Audience of the 13th of August 1997 approved in forma specifica this present Instruction and ordered its promulgation. Vatican City 15 August 1997, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
It was signed off on by: • Congregation for the Clergy • Pontifical Council for the Laity • Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith • Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments • Congregation for Bishops • Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples • Congregation for Institutes of Consecretated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life • Pontifical Council for the Interpretation of Legislative Texts.

That's pretty much the ENTIRE MAGISTERIUM.

The archbishop's argument (and the pastors who support him) will be that the neo-ad will not take the place of the homily but will come after it - despite the fact, if the archbishop's own example serves, the "homily" will be little more than a preview of the neo-ad.

However, the Church foresaw such disobedience from its pastors in 2004 in the following instruction from Redemptionis Sacramentum, issued in 2004 by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacrament which is subtitled...wait for it:
On certain matters to be observed or to be avoided regarding the Most Holy Eucharist
(Can we all say "AVOIDED"!!)
[74.] If the need arises for the gathered faithful to be given instruction or testimony by a layperson in a Church concerning the Christian life, it is altogether preferable that this be done outside Mass. Nevertheless, for serious reasons it is permissible that this type of instruction or testimony be given after the Priest has proclaimed the Prayer after Communion. This should not become a regular practice, however. Furthermore, these instructions and testimony should not be of such a nature that they could be confused with the homily,[156] nor is it permissible to dispense with the homily on their account.
So first we see that any instruction or testimony should be OUTSIDE MASS. For those who refuse to understand, that means AFTER the final blessing.

Then we see that an exception may be made FOR SERIOUS REASONS. The neo-ad does NOT qualify. And even if it did, it still CANNOT occur where Archbishop Apuron orders it to be: during the time reserved for the homily or even immediately after it. It MUST be done, and only FOR SERIOUS REASONS, after the Priest has proclaimed the Prayer after Communion.

What are we to do about a bishop and some pastors who openly violate not just the trust or the legitimate authority of the Catholic Church, but ours as well?

I can tell you what I have done whenever I have been abused in this way: I got up, walked out, and found another Mass where the priest refused to violate the authority which is higher than the bishop and respected the rights of the Catholic faithful to an authentic and licit celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and did not turn it into his personal play thing.

However, in light of the recent apostolic visit and the attention we now have from Rome, I recommend you stay and record it (video would be best) and send those recordings along with a letter of your disgust to:

Archbishop Martin Kregs nuntius@ihug.co.nz
Archbishop Savio Hon Tai-Fai segreteria@propagandafide.va

And don't forget to cc Archbishop Apuron as well as your pastor.

Also I would NOT put any money in the collection basket for this particular Mass as a sign of your disgust at this blatant act of disobedience and disregard for the Catholic faithful.

    1. Just watched the 9:30 a.m. cathedral Sunday mass on TV. They got around the prohibition against lay people giving the invitation to "joy" during the time for the homily by having a deacon deliver the invitation. I think they said the deacon is Deacon Gus Cepeda. I had always wondered why they ordained such an elderly man as a deacon. I guess it was because he is NCW.

    2. The testimony at 9:30 am mass at cathedral was toned down....we were not that lucky at 7:30 am mass....the guy went on and on about all of his bad behavior...several people walked out. A mother in the front row walked out with her small son...then came back for the final blessing...

    3. Most Deacons who joined NCW, joined because of marital prublemos! Marriage was going up in smoke!

    4. To Anonymous @ 11:14, kudos to the mother that left and came back for the final blessing. I too would have left but that will never make me leave my parish. Thank you for sharing and God bless you and the family. Biba Katoliku!

  4. Who said anything about the members giving "homilies"?

    1. Yes, we are quite aware of how you deceptively split hairs, like you separate receiving and consuming to justify your lie to your members. But then so did Rome, which is why they had to even further clarify the matter because of deceivers like you. In Redemptionis they had to go beyond the word "homily" and identify any sort of "instruction or testimony by a lay person." Of course, now you will say that it not an "instruction or testimony" just an "invitation". Right. Any wonder why we think Satan is behind this?

  5. If you have a friend, neighbor, or family member interested in attending these sessions, please pass along this link to them before you go. It's a critique of the 15 sessions and the final convivence that they should read before being subjected to the psychological leveraging of the sessions themselves. They can actually hear some of the heavy-handed techniques of the catechists they they'll experience if they join by going here. Si Yu'os Ma'ase.

    2. Everyone should understand the grand designs of these Kiko-sessions. They have a very strict and rigid schedule with detailed, predefined agenda. Attendees are considered future surrogates who will carry on the Kiko-cult. You will be formed into a Kiko-church feasting on the Catholic Church with a specific Kiko-hierarchy imposed on you. The word Catholic will be used only as a cover.

You will be told that you have to be "impregnated" by the message of Kiko, making you a spouse of Kiko, doesn't matter if you are male or female. They say an embryo starts to grow in you, fathered by Kiko's words that will lead to gestation, a growth in you as in a womb that ends when faith is born in you. They take it very seriously that Kiko's kerygma impregnates you and fathers your faith. It does not matter for them if you have been a good Catholic for 10, 15 or 20 years, even before these strange catechists came to the faith!

They will replace the name of Jesus in your mind, heart and soul by the name of Abraham. It will be very important that you don't even hear any reference to Jesus. In contrast, you will hear the name of Abraham about 150 times just at the initial session. Afterwards, Abraham's name will be repeated over and over again about 150 times at each subsequent session. Kiko considers Abraham as the founder of faith and not Jesus.

Be aware that all this cannot be done if you are free to speak during these sessions. So they will impose a strict silence on you. The only thing you will be allowed to do is singing Kiko's weirdo songs with them. You'll hear all Kiko's songs have strange tunes and twisted words. Some people should try to stand up and request question-answer session after the catechesis. It will be refused. If you ask about why Kiko's songs must be learned by everyone on these sessions, they will simply throw you out. They will say salvation is not for everyone... But do not be intimidated, be prepared to retort. This will make them grasp for air. Lol.

  6. Why do they need to provide testimonies during mass ? Why do I have to listen to men talk about how many women he slept with that were not his wife, how he abused his children and how the neos changed him from being gay....I am sick of these testimonies....I don't need to have to explain these things to my small children. Their testimonies have taken away from the peaceful prayer that is the mass. These testimonies are about them...not about God.

    1. Precisely why our Holy Father has tried to protect us with these Instructions. But our bishop and some priests disregard them. He and they will continue to do so until you confront them, especially if you let them know you will pull back your money.

    2. Their testimonies remind me of convicts who are ordered by the court to go out into the community and tell people the errors of their ways. No real remorse, and in some instances they seem to enjoy talking about the bad things they did.
As others have pointed out, the homily (for valid reasons) should not be tainted. Not once did I feel inspired by testimonies, and in fact it is just the opposite. I sensed how awkward it was, not only for the person giving the testimony, but also for the congregation. Some of the information were meant for adults only, ignoring the fact that children were present.
I wonder what would happen if people walk out right before the layperson "testifies" and return when it's over. I think that's what I would do next time.

  7. I totally agree with Tim....STOP giving your offerings! soon they will realize that we mean business!...

  8. I think they're going to take advantage of the Gospel for this Sunday and the specific phrase....."Come and see". Jesus personally invites in some cases. In the case of this Sunday's Gospel....the invitation comes from another - Andrew, who invites Simon to meet Jesus. I bet the homily will be a spring board, as Tim suggested, to the "neo-ad" given by a layperson. At Agana & Tamuning, the priest (the "alter christus" who serves "in persona Christi" in the context of the Mass) is going to allow the "other"/layperson to invite. While any invitation to know Christ, Love and Serve Him is all call for ALL the baptized to do, the Church asks us all follow the rubrics for the liturgy. It is as simple as that. The priest offering the Mass should not allow a lay person to add to the homily......even if they claim it is not part of the homily (if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then its a DUCK). If a lay person wants to speak, they can do so after Mass. I pray they follow what the Church asks.

*We really do need a competent Canon Lawyer and Liturgist in our Archdiocese. Those turkeys up the hill are confusing the heck out of people............

  10. Invitation to Joy. Tim, do you have permission to put this ad on your website?? On the Internet .

  11. Their testimonies should be left between them and GOD and not out in the open for all to hear. And if you haven't forgotten, this is Guam. Everybody already knows about everyone's dirty laundry. Just ask anyone and they'll always respond "I know!"

  12. At least no one needs to record 9:30 mass at the Cathedral. It will be available on live stream on the Cathedral's website and KUAM....wonder how the Catholic Daughters will like their mass taken over by the neos.

  13. God forbid they take the ambo to deliver homilies.

I understand the reason they take up some time from the homily or before the Final Blessing is to maintain a captive audience, but to all you NCW members out there, a question:

Shouldn't it be fair for the other organizations within our parish (Altar Servers, Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Choirs, Couples for Christ et all) to ALSO take up these "timeslots" as well. Hey, if I were to have a sarcastic disposition I'd say those are primetime slots.

I'll give you a moment to process that question.

I mean, these organizations and groups also need to recruit new members. We can never have enough members of the congregation take on roles within ministry.

So why can't they do that? Well?

It all comes down to the sanctity of the Mass. It's not rocket science - the faithful come to Mass to basically meditate on the readings of Christ and to offer prayers, not to act as the peanut gallery to your testimony.

As a former Altar Server leader, I taught my recruits one simple rule - we were never to draw attention to ourselves during Mass, because it will take away the attention of the congregation, even for a moment, from the focus of the Mass. For those who aren't following along, I'll give you a hint: his name is Jesus.

Anyways I digress. Keep the recruitment attempts to one specific timeframe: after Mass. Keep the focal point of the Mass (in its entirety) to Jesus.

  14. Banner should read "invitation for our joy" in my opinion.

  15. I wonder about all these testimonies....let us say that I a battered wife and I join the NCW to find some kind of salvation. I guess I will be told to continue staying in the marriage and continue to be battered! After all I did say for better or for worse! The story would go on where I will be told that to end all this, I must convince my husband to join. In the meantime, I need to put up with this until the old man comes to his senses! Let's just add that I, the battered wife, I am in denial, and I never reported him in because he really didn't mean it.

Yes, the wife will continue to be abused by her husband...the NCW a will work on the battered wife giving consolation and told to egg her husband on to join....which may be never. So battered wife will continue living in a home until she is beaten to death. Divorce is not an option for her.

  16. If I were to put a petition together and have my fellow parishioners who are just as tired of these "invitations" as I am sign, then present it to my parish priest (who is neo), would he still be able to continue these invitations 2 or 3 times a year? When will it ever stop?!?! I hate that I have to be inconvenienced by traveling somewhere else to find a parish where I WON'T have to hear someone's testimony or invitation to "joy". As if I can't find "joy" anywhere else. Enough already!!!!

    1. I was sort of thinking in the same realm. Although a too late for this "NCW recruitment Sunday", could we peacefully protest outside the parishes on public property? Educate those who are not in know that the mass will contain a NCW recruitment effort and what the NCW is. Remove the secrecy a little. Perhaps not on Guam, but in many areas the laity is unfamiliar with the NCW.

  17. The NCW must have a schedule. I may be thousands of miles from you, but they are hitting my state this Sunday also. Promoting it as a way to prepare for Lent. Thankfully, not in my diocese.

  18. How interesting that it's called Invitation to Joy. How ironic that they use the Mass as a vehicle to give out the invitation. Isn't the Mass, "Joy"? As far as I can see, I am already there. I don't need YOUR invitation. I already accepted the REAL Invitation to Joy! Instead of using a picture of Jesus, why don't they use a picture of Kiko and Carmen on the invitations and billboard/banner? Oh I forgot, the icon that's used resembles kiko's face. If the REAL Church that Jesus established is good enough for Him, then it's more than good enough for me.

  19. Our Lady of Lourdes parish, Yigo also had the Invitation to Joy segment at last night's Mass. I wonder if that's the reason a certain someone didn't serve the Mass.... Hmmmmm. Poor guy tho', I felt kind of sorry for him, he didn't even merit an introduction by the commentator or the presider. He had to introduce himself and announce that he was there with all the responsibles of Yigo and two seminarians. Sorry I wasn't able to record the segment. We have a 'turn off all electronic devices' invitation before Mass begins. I consider that to be God's time.
