SO WHAT ABOUT THE APPEAL?

The following is as found in today's Guam Daily Post:
Apuron, in a statement issued by his attorney Jacqueline Taitano Terlaje, stated:
"I have been informed of the conclusion of the first instance canonical trial against me.   While I am relieved that the tribunal dismissed the majority of the accusations against me, I have appealed the verdict. God is my witness; I am innocent and I look forward to proving my innocence in the appeals process."
"Today, my prayers are with the Church in Guam, which has been suffering greatly. I pray that Santa Marian Kamalen may intercede for the healing of our island."
It is instructive to note that Apuron is making this statement through his civil attorney and not his canonical attorneys. In fact, he has not made any statement through his canonical attorneys but instead always defaults to the "trained lawyer." Now why would that be?

Could it be because his canonical attorneys don't want anything to do with defending Apuron other than what they were assigned to do? Could it be that they know Apuron's case is hopeless and they do not want to violate their consciences as apparently some civil attorneys have no problem doing?

In any event, Apuron is GUILTY, GUILTY GUILTY! A panel of five judges found Apuron GUILTY, GUILTY, GUILTY! And before the sentence could be announced, the whole Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith AND THE POPE had to sign off on it.

You won't find the pope's signature on anything, but nothing like this can happen without his approval. At any time Francis could have stopped the proceedings or even pardoned Apuron. Yet, he did not.

Understand that the verdict of GUILTY is from Francis himself.

In fact, it may well have been Apuron's last two attempts at photo ops with Francis (a la crashing papal receiving lines) is what prompted the timing of yesterday's announcement.

There had been some speculation that the Vatican did not want to influence the civil mediation proceedings and was going to wait till after that had been decided before announcing the verdict.

However, it appears that Francis may have believed that he was used after all of the gushing press Apuron received in La Stampa, and just said the "h-ll with this," and issued the order to announce the verdict.

As for the appeal, well, of course, it's all Apuron and his neocat-handlers have. Don't forget, this is really about saving Kiko's Cult, not Apuron.

However, an appeal can only review the proceedings of the trial. New evidence cannot be introduced. And since this was such a high profile case, the first ever archbishop to be tried, and because it was a trial by his peers, we can bet that the Vatican was super meticulous in its handling of this case and that there is nothing to appeal.

Also, the Vatican is extremely aware of the entire world watching how they handle this because of how badly sex abuse by clerics has been handled in the past. So, we can super bet that they did not mishandle this case in any way.

And, by the way, Apuron can file an appeal, but that doesn't mean there is one. It will have to meet several conditions first before the Vatican will entertain it, and it will be the same five judges who have already found him GUILTY, GUILTY, GUILTY.

GUILTY - THE FULL TEXT

GUILTY

And does God have a sense of humor. Guilty sentence announced on (Guam Time) March 17, the Feast of St. Patrick, patron saint of the now-defunct RMS, and the very day Fr. Luis Camacho was arrested in Agat. Agat, the place of all of Apuron's horrors.

It is also fitting that today is St. Patrick's day, given, as legend has it, that the fabled saint once drove all the snakes off an island. (Except in our case, it is not "all"...yet.)

A Vatican tribunal has found Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron, who was accused of sexual abuse, guilty of “certain of the accusations” against him, and removed him from office.
The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith announced the verdict on Friday and imposed upon the archbishop “the penalties of privation of office and prohibition of residence in the Archdiocese of Guam”.
Archbishop Apuron has headed the Archdiocese of Agaña since 1986.
A source told The Catholic Herald that Archbishop Apuron will appeal the verdict, and remains Archbishop of Agaña while he does so.
The accusations against the archbishop ranged from the most serious allegations of child abuse to less serious accusations. The CDF rejected most of the accusations, and has not revealed which ones he is guilty of.
The archbishop denies all accusations against him.
This story is developing

ROME — A Vatican tribunal has found Guam Archbishop Anthony Apuron, who had been accused of sexually abusing young men decades ago, "guilty of certain of the accusations," imposing a penalty of removal from office and a prohibition from living on the U.S. island territory.

A five-judge apostolic tribunal of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith announced its verdict in Apuron's canonical case March 16 with a brief press release. The release did not specify of which exact acts the archbishop had been found guilty.

Apuron, a Guam native who had led the island's only diocese since 1986, was placed on leave by Pope Francis in June 2016 after a series of accusations about abuse of young men in the 1960s and 70s were made public.

Francis named an apostolic administrator to run the archdiocese for several months and then named Coadjutor Archbishop Michael Byrnes, a former auxiliary bishop of Detroit, to take over.

As coadjutor, Byrnes would automatically become full archbishop of the archdiocese with Apuron's removal from office. But the doctrinal congregation's statement made clear that Apuron still has the right to appeal the ruling, and that during such an appeal the penalties against the archbishop are suspended.

U.S. Cardinal Raymond Burke, a noted canon lawyer, has served as the presiding judge in the Vatican's canonical trial.

Apuron, 72, has been accused of having inappropriate physical contact with at least five young boys. The allegations emerged in May 2016 when one of the boys, now in his 50s, came forward, prompting others to do the same.

Apuron has denied the allegations against him, and Guam civil authorities have not charged him with any crimes.

The Guam archbishop was spotted in Rome in February, when he was seen in a wheelchair during a weekly Wednesday audience with Francis. Several outlets reported at the time that Apuron greeted the pope and told him: "Holy Father, I wanted to see you before I die."

RESPONSE TO FREEMAN - PART 1

Recently, a bill limiting abortions to 20 weeks gestation was introduced in the Legislature. As expected, Guam's top abortion provider is opposing it and we appreciate the opposition as it gives us an opportunity to once again push the issue into view.

Freeman apparently feels he can simply bully the people of Guam. Per the Guttmacher Institute:
"24 states impose prohibitions after a certain number of weeks; 17 of these states ban abortion at about 20 weeks post-fertilization or its equivalent of 22 weeks after the woman’s last menstrual period on the grounds that the fetus can feel pain at that point in gestation."
If 24 states can impose prohibitions after a certain number of weeks, and 17 have already passed bans at 20 weeks, then why not the people of Guam?

Freeman and his pro-aborts will argue that some of those bans have been challenged. So what. The Supreme Court once ruled that white men could own black men (Dred Scott, 1857).

As for abortions going up after restrictions, Freeman ignores Guam's own facts. Since 2008 and the beginning of the efforts of The Epseransa Project, 8 public laws restricting and/or regulating abortion have been enacted:

And abortions overall have gone down:

TODAY'S FROM BOB: EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY! LIZ BARRETT-ANDERSON

While there is much to report on re the MISSOURI MANEUVER, the Board of Ed., The Every Child Act and Jon Fernandez' apparent "epiphany," I must put off discussion of those important matters  momentarily while I deal with the emergency created by Lizzy's candidacy.  Lizzy's throwing her hat in the ring has sent me back to my bulging correspondence file and the catacombs of JungleWatch for material to remind all of the job Lizzy has done this time around.

There's more in first of this series at FROM BOB

PACIFIC ISLAND TIMES: TIM ROHR: ROARING IN A CULTURE OF SILENCE

http://www.pacificislandtimes.com/single-post/2018/03/06/Tim-Rohr-Roaring-in-a-culture-of-silence

Just a couple of notes here:

- The "me too" victims were adults. They knowingly got together with the Cosby's and the Weinstein's et al. The people I am defending ARE innocent altar boys, just wanting to serve God. 11, 12 year olds. NO COMPARISON.

- "One’s faith shouldn’t be in the Church, Rohr says". I would never say that. The "Church" is the Bride of Christ. I believe I said "church leadership," which is what I always say. But even then that has to be nuanced. There is the "leadership" that is the magisterial teaching authority that transmits the deposit of faith as given to the apostles by Jesus, which transcends the mere human "leadership" of this or that pope or bishop.

FROM BOB

Friends,

While JungleWatch has been mostly focused on the local church drama, the blog was originally dedicated to "watching the jungle," that is our general social milieu, and commenting on it. One of the most astute "watchers" (and workers) over the years has been former Senator Bob Klitzkie. Recently Bob has begun his own blog to engage the "goings-on" in our community and we at JungleWatchNation encourage you to make a daily check of Bob's blog FROM BOB

EX NEOCAT SPEAKS

My note: This blog receives many emails and inquiries from former members of the NCW. Most simply want to quietly encourage us in what we do on this blog. Some, from time to time have permitted us to publish their accounts. But ALL do not want their names to be known. That alone should speak loudly to us. Where else does one find such fear of retaliation from what is supposed to be an authentically Church-sanctioned group? One which brags "The Holy Spirit accompanies us! Jesus goes before us!" (This blog post may be downloaded as a PDF here.)

By Anonymous

The Holy Spirit accompanies us!
 Jesus goes before us!

Anyone who has been to a neocatechumenate catechesis or been a member of a neocatechumenate community will recognise these words. These are the fundamental claims to authenticity and justification for the neocatechumenate to claim it is inspired by God, that it must obey God and be faithful to the charism given by God. Ultimately this has led to the NCW’s disobedience to the Pope, the Magisterium and to legitimate church authorities.

The outcome is being witnessed worldwide and has been well publicised
that a major division has been created within the church
which would certainly
not be a fruit of the Holy Spirit!
Some neocatechumenate members claim that
wherever Jesus is proclaimed division is caused
because the people listening are forced to make a decision for or against Jesus.

This is certainly true BUT when the statement is made in relation to the Church it is very different.  The inference here, in relation to the Church, is that the Church is not in communion with Jesus and the NCW knows better than the Church. This conclusion would never be stated directly but implied through such subtle statements. Unfortunately many community members are taken in and seduced by such subtle inferences without considering  exactly what is being said.

I invite members of the NCW to consider carefully how their membership of the organisation is giving mandate to the NCW leadership to exert influence in and on the Church in ways undisclosed to them but of great concern to the Church. As members are you aware of this and are you consulted or kept informed of exactly what Kiko is doing?

If you became aware that the organisation had been infiltrated by politically motivated leaders and was involved in dishonest, criminal and subversive activities would you still be happy to offer your mandate?

Here is an extract from  “Life every day” by Jeff Lucas  that gives some insight into the methods of evangelisation used by some christian movements. Some similarities can be found here to the methods employed by the NCW.

There is no doubt that many people, including myself, have benefitted from the Way and many “good fruits” are being seen. It is true that The Holy Spirit accompanies the Way. The fundamental question is does this guarantee authenticity and benefit the Church? Most individuals at parish level in the NCW have little insight into the reality of the Way’s influence within the Church. They will only see the local picture and the information they are allowed to receive through the official channels of the Way. This information would be favourably biased to emphasise the Way’s good fruit while filtering out as much negative news as possible.

The official NCW line would be to suppress information about  involvement in the:
Vatileaks scandal
or the
Fraudulent misappropriation of church assets
($40million in just one Guam property!)note 1
Being caught trying to slip approvals past Pope Benedict by devious means. https://www.ncronline.org/blogs/ncr-today/leaks-confirm-ambivalence-about-neocatechumenal-way
or the use of
Spreading of misleading information to divert attention from the truth
or
infiltration by Communist ideology
(http://thoughtfulcatholic.com/?page_id=45347) note 2
or anarchists
(https://web.stanford.edu/group/mappingmilitants/cgi-bin/groups/view/77) note 3.

Kiko  preaches about the evil of the internet as the internet challenges his control and ability to limit member’s access to information and to manipulate what he wants them to know. (and what he doesn’t want them to know)

After many years as a member of the NCW and reaching the final stage of election, I can personally confirm that I was completely convinced that I was on the right path. I was addicted to the emotional highs from the weekly eucharist and the belief that I was on a way of personal conversion leading to sainthood with the approval of the Pope and the Church.
I had a powerful conversion experience at the outset and became increasingly exposed to devotions and practices of the church. At first sight and according to my rational judgement  all seemed good and I could have been considered a zealot of the Way. All the members of the community were making personal progress in their spiritual life, as was I.

However certain unsavoury matters started to come to my attention and this eventually led to the opening of my eyes to the reality of what I was part of leading to my decision to leave. Making the decision to leave meant leaving all the people I had been closely associated with for over 20 years and starting out again by myself. I pray everyday for my friends in the Way that they will have their eyes opened too. Unfortunately they are probably like I was,  just looking inwardly at themselves and not considering the bigger picture. I was for the most part unaware of the reality at the top of the Way’s organisation and now I am ashamed that I allowed myself to be manipulated into supporting it.

Some of the many unsavoury matters would be:

Witnessing Kiko shouting at a young African who was standing up at a vocational meeting in Porto San Giorgio
“hurry up before I kick you in the head!”(original in Spanish)
witnessing international catechists laughing and approving of Kiko’s outburst.

Claims that the charisms are now with the laity and NCW catechists are
true apostles. (note 4)

Bullying and hectoring members in an attempt to prevent any questioning or dissention.

Little regard for those with mental illness
or risk of suicide. (I have witnessed 5 suicides in the Way)

Blatant self promotion by the NCW and denigration of any opposition including Church hierarchy.

Misrepresentation of the facts to cover up misappropriation of assets & funds etc.

Moving the goal posts to keep NCW members bound in by continually extending the time needed to be in the Way. The NCW statutes say 10 years to complete the way. Actual experience can be up to 30 years. At the end of the way members are not freed to return to their parish but are bound to their communities.

In Conclusion.

As part of the covenants I have made I am making members of the Way aware of the reality so that they can repent (think again), convert (change direction and come back to the Church), and withdraw their mandate to the Way.

Note 1. This is the most famous example of misappropriation of assets but many parish cheque books are being misused worldwide.

Note 2.. Prof G Genarini is a member of an US Eastern seaboard Italian family. He has been the national catechist of the NCW in the USA and has been tipped to succeed Kiko.

Note 3.  A number of the 72 elected by Kiko are reported to have had association with the Red Brigades including a previous member of the UK national team, Fr M Pello.

Note 4.  NCW catechists ultimately believe that  Bishops must obey them. They delight in compromising churchmen in authority in order to exercise control over them.

APURON SEEKS DISMISSAL OF LIBEL CLAIMS

PACFIC DAILY NEWS: Apuron seeks dismissal of libel claims (March 9, 2018)

  • Apuron, through attorney Jacqueline Terlaje, said the plaintiffs have failed to show there was defamation and have failed to establish malice.

  • In Apuron's Feb. 27 court filing, Apuron said he directed, authorized and approved several statements in May, "without any malicious intent to protect his personal interests, and that of the Archdiocese of Agana."

  • The third was an archdiocese statement, denying the statements made by Doris Concepcion, who said Apuron molested her son when he was an altar boy.

Here's what Apuron actually "authorized" to be said:

  • Another malicious and calumnious accusation against the Archbishop has surfaced; this time from the mother of a man who has been deceased for eleven years.

Saying "I didn't do it," is VERY different than accusing Mrs. Concepcion of a "malicious and calumnious accusation." And while I  can't speak for the judge, it is quite obvious to all that this is probably why he did not dismiss the libel portion of the suit.

Additionally, here is what else Apuron "authorized" to be said in his May 31 press release:

  • Tim Rohr and his associates launched a vicious and calumnious attack on the Archbishop and the Church.
  • They demanded that the Archbishop return to the former ways of financial administration…
  • They wanted to sell the seminary in Yona…
  • The perpetrators of these calumnies have resorted to insults and violence revealing their true intention to destroy the Catholic Church…
  • They have…cruel intent to injure the Archbishop, the Catholic Church in Guam and many other people of good will who have been outraged and harassed.

The accusations against me, Tim Rohr, contained in this May 31, 2016 Media Release, were published as follows:

  • “Tim Rohr and his associates launched a vicious and calumnious attack on the Archbishop and the Church,” the Archdiocese of Agana said. “They demanded that the Archbishop return to the former ways of financial administration, when the archdiocese was increasing debts every year because of mismanagement. They wanted to sell the seminary in Yona to cover the substantial debt accumulated by the previous administration of these three entities. The Archbishop was adamantly opposed to the idea of selling the seminary to cover these debts. Thus began a malicious campaign to denounce and attack the Archbishop at whatever cost to get him out of the way.” - Eugenio, Haidee V. “Archdiocese plans to sue for ‘malicious lies’ again.” Pacific Daily News. Hagatna, Guam. June 1, 2016

The release blames catholic blogger Tim Rohr for "launching a vicious and calumnious attack on the archbishop and the church." The release says that the malicious campaign is in retaliation for refusing to sell the Yona seminary to cover debt from the previous administration. (The news item goes on to quote the May 31, 2016 Media Release from the Chancery in full.) - “Archbishop Apuron Denies Sexually Abusing Doris Concepcion's Son.” Pacific News Center. Hagatna, Guam. May 31, 2016.

  • “Tim Rohr and his associates launched a 'vicious and calumnious attack' on the archbishop and the church,” the statement says. - Guzman, Jaqueline Perry. “Archdiocese responds to new allegation.” The Guam Daily Post. Hagatna, Guam. June 1, 2016.

On June 3, 2016, another Media Release was sent from the Chancery Office of the Archdiocese of Agana to the local Media.

Referencing, again, the supposed plan to sell the seminary, the Release states in pertinent part:

  • Tim Rohr…had a personal interest in this plan and was supposed to be involved in this multi-million dollar sale as a real estate mediator.

The accusation against me, Tim Rohr, contained in this Media Release, was published as follows:

  • The church meanwhile is also accusing Martinez of being part of a conspiracy or the "Rohr Group" to topple the archbishop. Tim Rohr operates the JungleWatch blog, which has been critical of the archbishop over the last several years. The church further claims Martinez, who was the former archdiocesan financial officer was incompetent in his position and for six years in a row failed to submit required financial reports to the Vatican.  The archdiocese alleges this finance council conspired to sell the Yona seminary property in order to cover their financial misdeeds. So where does Rohr fit in? According to the church they allege he had a personal interest in the plan and was supposed to be involved in the multi-million dollar sale as a real estate mediator. - Matanane, Sabrina Salas. “Church says there's a plot to topple the archbishop.” KUAM. Hagatna, Guam. June 3, 2016.

Both media releases, dated May 31 and June 3, 2016, were inscribed on what appears to be the official stationary of the Archdiocese of Agana and nothing in or about the release suggests that it is anything other than an official communication of the Chancery Office of the Archdiocese of Agana. Therefore I must treat the release as official and genuine. And because the release was intended to, and did, have broad circulation, I must treat both communications as an extremely serious matter.

In addition, the accusation implying that I, Tim Rohr, was part of a conspiracy involving an improper and clandestine real estate transaction is libelous and injurious to my profession and my ability to provide for my family.

NO MATTER YOUR DARKNESS

About a year ago, I met the most amazing couple. I have permission to use Emma's name, and so I shall. Emma's husband was killed in Afghanistan in 2010. He gave his life for ours. Later, as she recuperated from her darkness, she married a man who was her husband's friend.

They are both so amazing. Emma had a child at the time. And - as I have had the privilege to witness personally - her new husband loved and loves Emma's child by her deceased husband - as his own. Emma gave me permission to print this entry from her blog which she wrote in 2014 and which she shared to help me through my own dark time. And, with her permission, I share it here. Few of us lose a spouse so early in life. Emma did. And her story is an inspiration to so many. May it be a help and inspiration so you...no matter your darkness.

*****

During the dark times in our lives; be they tragedy, loss of a loved one, illness, or abuse...our hearts build up walls as a way to protect itself from further pain.   How much can one heart take after all?  I know that in my own journey of losing my husband, 1LT Todd Weaver, that while simultaneously feeling comforted by knowing he is in Heaven watching over our daughter and I, that I built up my own walls so I might never have to experience this again.  My mindset was one of independence and resilience.  Kiley and I were going to be just fine!  I wanted nothing except to take care of her and raise her in a way Todd would be proud.  I thought I was strong.  I thought I had my head on straight.  I was learning that God's plan was above my own plan for our lives.  I had to be open to listening for what it was He was teaching us now.  I thought I could help other's gain a new perspective on death.  But I wasn't helping myself.

Something clicked about a month ago.  My "resilience and strength" was a wall- a wall to keep away anything or anybody that could hurt my heart ever again.  The way I feel about losing Todd has always been that I would have NEVER chosen this for us-but that God knew Todd's life was full and amazingly well lived- and that his sacrifice would save lives, touch lives, and always be remembered.  This was His plan.  And while I've thought this for so long now I have been cheating myself by trying to manipulate my heart in order to protect myself.  I purposefully avoided any thought about "moving forward"- hated words to Gold Star Families by the way- and that Kiley and I could handle being on our own.  I locked the door in my mind.  But recently the key has been turned and the door was cracked open.  I had been punishing myself by avoiding any idea of happiness of heart- as I felt it would be dishonoring Todd - that it was my way of matching his sacrifice.  I shouldn't feel that way.  And I know that now.

September 11th, 2010, two days after Todd was killed, our family and friends gathered in the Sunken Gardens at the College of William & Mary.  The ceremony remembered those lost on 9/11 and an added wreath was laid for Todd, as he was a  graduate of the College.  There was a man who had come to pay his respects that was a student with Todd.  He was a familiar face.  He expressed his condolences and  tried to brighten the mood by talking about some of the good times with Todd.

A few months passed with a few "hello's" and "how are you doing's".  He began to make himself available to listen to our story; a place where I could share what I was feeling and everything we've been going through since the beginning of this journey.  He had become a very good friend.  I enjoyed talking to him and laughing with him- but I couldn't read him.  I wanted to make sure he didn't misinterpret the friendship because that door was locked.  And then he deployed.

A few more months passed and the door was still locked.  I was just fine with having a friend to talk things out with.  And then he got injured.  During a training exercise he sustained an injury to his eye that has required four surgeries.  He had to be sent back to the states for treatment and that is when I decided I needed to go see him.  Because of the number of soldiers being seen at the medical center he was cleared to stay at a nearby hotel.  When he opened his door....I unlocked my mind's door.

It has become clear to me that our hearts and our minds will not let us do things that they know we are not ready for.  And my heart decided it was ready to take risks again.  Because that's who I am.  I was built to support the people I care about.  To stand beside them in times of trouble.  I wish I could have learned this lesson in a book rather than having to live it out- but losing Todd has taught me so much about what I value now, what isn't worth holding onto, and what is.  I feel like I've gained an entire life's worth of lessons since Todd's death- and in that I have been able to walk with this man as he navigates the uncertainties of his healing and the future of his career.  He had been so helpful to me from early on and I am blessed to be able to give that back.

Todd's fingerprint is permanently pressed into my heart.  He will never leave.  It is not possible.  Our daughter will know him to the best of my ability!  My family tree does not change because Todd is gone.  He didn't walk out the door....I didn't divorce him....he was sent home to Heaven.  I have been so blessed to be continually supported by family and friends when the opposite is all too often the case for widows.  They get pushed away.  Erased.  Knowing how lucky I am to have such a great relationship with my in-laws I am scared of the thought of any of that changing based on "moving forward".  Of course this is all in my head and totally irrational.  I know they want only for Kiley and I to be happy, but I'm scared.  Scared that a new relationship could be interpreted as a replacement for Todd.  And now I can't stop crying.  I care a lot about what other's may think.  And maybe that's something I have to work out on my own.

I don't know what the future holds.  I'm not supposed to.  What I do know is that I'm happy, hopeful, and as we navigate this relationship and the initial inquisitive looks start to fade- that there will be more to share.

WHY DID REV AND TAX GO AFTER SDA...?

PACIFIC NEWS CENTER: CCOG says Kamalen Karidat not exempt from filing tax reports

We can understand why some are uneasy about going after Kamalen Karidat.

The name itself, referring to our patron saint along with the word "charity," plus its reputation for "helping the poor," not to mention the many dollars and years of time-contributions given to it, sort of make the organization sacrosanct.

However, some believe that this was precisely the intent of Anthony S. Apuron when he set up KK in 1994: an organization apart from the Church which could raise and distribute money, not only without public accountability, but under the protection of a stigma stamped on anyone who dared question KK's operations, as the CCOG is now doing.

The issue is quite difficult to understand as it involves intricate corporate and tax stuff. However, by coincidence, there was another news story today involving SDA in a very similar matter. And it is worth studying the SDA situation in light of the current issue with KK.

The only thing we'd question at this point is why GovGuam chose to investigate SDA but seems hesitant to touch KK.

We shall see.

SMH. DRAIN THE SWAMP

Survey poll declining Catholic flock

https://www.postguam.com/news/local/survey-poll-declining-catholic-flock/article_aebdfa36-1847-11e8-baaf-df0c8ca90814.html

Tim Rohr ·

How about by starting out without a "secret deacon," who will be able to know who we are but we can't know who he is. SMH. So glad to know this wasn't Archbishop Byrnes' idea.

In 1986, the year Apuron became the Archbishop of Agana, there were maybe five non-Catholic religious communities of any consequence. Today, there are over 60, all mostly made up of "former" Catholics. This long exodus happened under Apuron's 30 year "reign of neglect" and began happening long before the sex abuse allegations came to the fore beginning in May 2016.

And here are a few other matters that grew under Apuron's three decades of episcopal power. (The data was assembled for an article in the PDN in 2013.)

  1. Guam has the most liberal abortion laws in the nation which allow for the termination of nearly one out of ten pregnancies with more than 60% being Chamorro. (2012 Guam Medical Records)
  2. Guam has the 14th highest suicide rate in the world and a rate 1.2 times the national average (2011 World Health Organization and A Profile of Suicide on Guam, September 2011)
  3. Guam has a 20% higher out of wedlock birth rate (60%) compared to the rest of the nation (40.8%, CDC 2010) Note: Guam stopped reporting “illegitimate” births in 2005. 60% is based on the average between 2000 and 2005).
  4. Guam has double the teen birthrate compared to the rest of the nation (Guam PDN, 6/25/13)
  5. Guam’s rape rate is 94.4 per 100,000 (2011 Yearbook: 151 reported rapes). This is nearly triple the national average of 29.8. (U.S. Census Bureau, Statistical Abstract of the United States: 2012, Table 314)
  6. Guam abuses and neglects its children at nearly double the national average (Guam child maltreatment rate of 76.81 per 1000 children based on 2012 CPS report and 2010 census vs 41.2 per 1000 children national average as per Table 3-2, Child Maltreatment 2011, Children’s Bureau, U.S. DPHHS)

BALLIN: "I AM NOW HIS BISHOP"

Yesterday, Rome time, presbyter-smuggler extraordinaire, Bishop Camillo Ballin, met with Pope Francis.

As you will recall, nearly two years ago, Bishop Ballin informed us that he was now the bishop of refugee-presbyter, Luis Camacho*, despite the fact that Camacho is still a priest incardinated in the Archdiocese of Agana.

So how could he do that? How could he just incardinate a priest who is still incardinated in the Archdiocese of Agana? Well, when you're a neocat, it's easy. They have no hierarchy, no ecclesial authority but their own.

As we have long seen here in the Archdiocese of Agana, ground zero for neocat aggression, the neocat hierarchy simply makes it up as they go along. Anywhere else, that would be called Protestantism.

However, when it hides inside the Catholic Church, it's at least labelled Disobedience. And, at least one bishop has had the courage to call it Heresy:
"It is a Trojan horse in the Church...it is Protestant...(it) is completely absurd...it is Lutheran...it is Heresy....Thus they justify all their heretical practices and teachings with Vatican II. This is a grave abuse." - Bishop Athanasius Schneider
(*Note: We believe that while Camacho is certainly responsible for the transgressions that got him into trouble, we do not believe that he is responsible for his current refugee status. We lay that at the feet of the two bishops who corroborated in the smuggling of Camacho: Ballin and Apuron.)

THIS IS WHY APURON RAN

Don't you see how fierce his opponents were!

NOT WITH WHAT YOU TAUGHT...BUT WITH HOW YOU ACTED

Just for old time's sake, let's have a little fun with The Diana. "She" says:

Ah, Diana. You flatter us. "Law-enforce and authority..., etc.?" Gosh. Such power. Thanks. But we are quite happy with Archbishop Byrnes. It may have taken awhile, but he has seen through your scam. Seminary closed. And soon the NCW?

I say yes. And here's why.

Not because of your heretical teaching, which has become increasingly obvious (e.g. "Jesus is a Sinner" i.e. meaning Jesus is not God - aka Arianism), but because your leadership absolutely disobeyed a simple request: to provide Archbishop Byrnes, the absolute authority in this diocese, with a copy of the NCW's Catechetical Directory

Archbishop Byrnes made this request last March, and for nearly year now, your leadership has not only played Button, button, who's got the button?, but thumbed their noses (if not a a different finger) at Archbishop Byrnes.

How sad for you.

Truly, Archbishop Byrnes came to Guam last year really willing to listen "to both sides." His closure of RMS and his crackdown on the NCW had nothing to do with what was actually taught...but with how you acted.

Bye Diana. Will miss you.

HERE'S AN ANGLE WE HAVEN'T SEEN YET

Waiting for a Vatican verdict on allegations that he sexually abused several boys in the 1970s, Archbishop Anthony Apuron of Agana, Guam, attended one of Pope Francis’s weekly general audiences in February.

The archbishop’s presence at the audience on February 7 was not announced by the Vatican. However, Vatican media did not attempt to hide his presence in photographs and a video of the audience.

The Italian website, Vatican Insider, published a story on February 10 claiming that when Archbishop Apuron personally greeted the pope at the end of the audience, he told the pope, “Holy Father, I wanted to see you before I die.” CONTINUED

THE REIGN OF SILENCE IS AT AN END

Counseling for clergy sex abuse accusers continues

Professional counseling services continue for victims of clergy sex abuse, nearly a year since the Archdiocese of Agana created Hope and Healing Guam in April 2017 amid efforts to try to settle clergy abuse lawsuits. CONTINUED

The Hope and Healing hotline for those who have been sexually abused in the Catholic Church is 1-888-649-5288. If the line is busy, a caseworker will return the call.

My note: I know from people who have privately approached me who did not want to go public, that there are far more victims than what has been reported. Not surprised. Who would dare speak up during the long "reign of silence."

STILL BUSY

JungleWatch is more than just a "breaking news" blog. It is probably the world's greatest depository of information of how the weak can stand up to the strong, of how to speak truth to power, of how to do more than just complain...and of what can be accomplished when you are "not afraid."

PDN GETS IT RIGHT

In titling the story "Libel claims against Archbishop Apuron remain, slander dismissed," the PDN got the real story right.

The real story is "Libel claims against Apuron remain.

In fact, at least from the PDN story, it appears that even the slander portion of the suit was dismissed only under a technicality and not because there was no slander committed:

"Accordingly, because plaintiffs failed to plead special damages, Plaintiffs have failed to state a claim upon which relief can be granted," the judge wrote. "Therefore, the court holds that dismissal of the slander claim is appropriate."

HERE is the "media release" referenced in the PDN story.

YES, IT WAS EDIVALDO

According to a KUAM news story, Judge Michael Bordallo has dismissed the slander portion of the defamation lawsuit against Apuron by those who have accused him of sex abuse, but NOT the libel portion.

First, let's understand the difference between slander and libel:

"Libel and slander are types of defamatory statements. Libel is a written defamatory statement, and slander is a spoken or oral defamatory statement."

It's easy to see why the judge dismissed ONLY the slander portion (the spoken part) of the suit. In Apuron's video statement of May 17, 2016, the day Roy Quintanilla accused him of molesting him, Apuron only denied the allegation.

The libel part came in the press release of May 31, 2016, and it was aimed directly at Doris Concepcion:

"Another malicious and calumnious accusation against the Archbishop has surfaced; this time from the mother of a man who has been deceased for eleven years."

It's one thing to deny an allegation, it's another thing to accuse the person making the allegation of being "malicious and calumnious." That's defamation, especially since Doris was only sharing what her dying son had told her, and it is libel, because it was written.

This is what got Apuron in trouble...and HE STILL IS.

However, the real target of the statement was Tim Rohr. In fact, "Tim Rohr," was the only person named in the defamatory  press release. Here are all the things Apuron accused Tim Rohr of:

Tim Rohr and his associates launched a vicious and calumnious attack on the Archbishop and the Church
Thus began a malicious campaign to denounce and attack the Archbishop...
The perpetrators of these calumnies have resorted to insults and violence revealing their true intention to destroy the Catholic Church...
Their method is to confuse and mislead the faithful, even to the point of inducing some to bring false testimony...
Those who are orchestrating this campaign are inciting people into hatred of the Archbishop and the Catholic Church.
They have produced scandal, confusion and grave errors with the cruel intent to injure the Archbishop, the Catholic Church in Guam and many other people of good will who have been outraged and harassed.

He then threatened to sue Tim Rohr civilly and canonically:

Therefore, the Archdiocese of Agana is in the process of taking canonical and legal measures against those perpetrating these malicious lies.

Never mind the plural references ("those" etc.). There was only one person publicly standing up against Apuron at the time and it was Tim Rohr. That's why the press release uses "associates," and doesn't name anyone else.

And to his threats Tim rohr responded: "Bring it on."

Rohr, who writes about the local Catholic Church on his blog site JungleWatch, said Tuesday he welcomes the legal action that the Archdiocese is planning, hoping that everything will be revealed in court.
“Bring it on,” said Rohr.

So why did Tim Rohr say that? Why wasn't Tim Rohr afraid?

Because Tim Rohr knew it wasn't Apuron who said any of the above. By May 31, 2016, Apuron had already fled Guam and begged for help from Papa:

Archbishop Apuron runs to the Pope from Undercover Neo on Vimeo.

So who was it who was threatening Tim Rohr?

It was Adrian and Edivaldo, the two impostors who had been running things all along. How does Tim Rohr know this? Here are the reasons:
  1. Apuron had not been running this diocese for a very long time.
  2. Adrian, Edivaldo, and the other neocat hierarchy were the real orchestrators, something the infamous "fist pump" video shortly gave away.
  3. Apuron had already fled Guam.
  4. The press release was sent out by Edivaldo.

Thus, Tim Rohr prepared his own brief for a defamation suit against Adrian and Edivaldo.

The trouble for Apuron was that Adrian and Edivaldo didn't put their names on it and sent it out on chancery letterhead - which made Apuron liable for libel, and still does.

Thus Edivaldo brought down the very man he was trying to protect.

By "coincidence" the following message was received just minutes before KUAM released it's story:

This morning, since I had the day off, I went to morning mass for Ash Wednesday. I was taken aback by a priest I've never seen before at my parish. He was popular with the school kids in attendance and his sermon seemed alright.
After mass, I met with him to ask his name. He spewed it out with an air of arrogance, as if I weren't supposed to register it. Little did he know I know Portuguese and could understand...yes, it was Edivaldo.

The KUAM story ends with this from "the trained lawyer:"

"He is outside of Guam. Why? Would you be able...to live in this very small, close knit community in the difficulty that exists? That's just the equation for another heart attack, frankly. And so yes, there is a factor of a medical condition - but it's also common sense."

Ummm, no. It would have been "common sense" not to run if he had nothing to run from.
